Vibes for this afternoon, please?
Sending out a quick "halp!" to the lovely members of ASAH--if anybody's got any good juju to spare today, could you keep me in your thoughts around 4:30 ET? That's when I'm giving my talk on 2012, and I'm just a WEE bit nervous. (Okay, more than that! :scared:)

Please to help keep me from doing any of the following during my half-hour allotment:

:puke:

Or, you know, just generally be a

Thanks awfully! :hi: :grouphug:

1. You will do GREAT!
Sending vibes for calming, centered energy for you to let your wisdom flow easily and completely. But I know how those nerves go...I had to laugh at this one :puke: which is always my worst fear...:) But you will do a great job and I look forward to hearing how it goes!

6. Luckily I've never done that
not even during my acting days. But then again, on performance evenings I only had toast and tea for dinner, just to make sure. ;)

Oh no. I just had some pickles...
:rofl:

Thanks, FDB! :hi:

2. You've got it, MG!
I know that you'd do MAHVELOUSLY even without celestial assistance, but just to make you feel better, I'm asking that you be surrounded by everything that you need to feel comfortable, confident, happy and excited (in a good way) during your presentation.

No doubt -- you can do it!

A good friend asked me to bail her out at the last minute, as the person who was going to do the talk backed out. I hope I can make the Powers That Be proud (I'm talking the universe as well as the event organizers). ;)

13. If I'm not too late, try this chakra portal:
The Third Chakra Mystic Portal: Yellow

Use this portal if you are experiencing:
Indecisiveness
Fear
Lack of self-esteem
Lack of focus
Insecurity
Feeling timid
Feeling closed off from others
Bravado rather than confidence
Mental confusion
Feel that others control you
Problems sticking to your decisions
Overly optimistic
Overly pessimistic or dour
No intuition
Lack of confidence
No personal boundaries
Closed off from others
Lack of personal control
~~~
I'm sure you'll do great, MG! Just keep focused and you'll be fine :D :hug:
17. Dude, I am dressed, makeupped, and haired
standing in the middle of my kitchen so I don't wrinkle the skirt and contemplating pre-event Tylenol to head off the creeping stress headache.
I have some citrine jewelry on (I own lots of that!) and am dressed in soothing green and blue. That's gonna have to do!
Now I'm going to go check my teeth to see if anything's stuck in there...:P
22. Just make a couple jokes about "the rapture" to warm up the crowd.
Like. . ."Is everybody here rapture ready. . .?. . .If so kindly deposit your car keys at the door."
Kidding.
I'm sure you'll do wonderfully and glide through it effortlessly,
Sometimes we burn off any potential crapola in advance and then end up having a phenomenally fantstic time.
I'm sure you will as indicated by all those cathartic smilies.
Go get 'em girl.
25. I LIVED!!!
Thanks ASAH peeps for the wonderful vibes! :grouphug:
Just FYI I did none of the things that my smilies illustrated. :evilgrin:
There was a good turnout at the festival itself, even early on, before most people got out of work, so I was happy for my friend (the one who had asked me to speak). I was the first speaker; we were set up in an empty restaurant! (The festival was in a mixed-use building that used to be a factory.) It had a pretty good echo and a left-behind upright piano. I wished I knew how to play (definitely not the first and likely not the last time I've wished that) because I would have gone to town on it to get people's attention. There was no loudspeaker for announcements, so we just kind of had to trust that people would wander into the room at the right time (there was a sign on an easel by the door).
I also wished I had thought ahead, because I would have made a sign that said "The end is near!" and marched around by the booths to get people's attention. (Stella--GMTA!)
As it was, I could only sit on one of the chairs that were placed in a semicircle and hope that other people would think I was waiting for the talk to begin and sit down too.
Still, nobody showed up. At 4:35 I called Mr. MG because he wanted to know how it was going. While I was telling him nobody was there, somebody walked in. So I hung up the phone and the gentleman and I sat down and started talking about 2012. What's the first thing he brought up? The third, fourth, and fifth dimensions--exactly what I was hoping to avoid talking about, because I don't really understand it!
He kept looking past me, out the windows that faced an entrance hallway--he was looking for some of his friends. He excused himself and pulled a woman in. So then I had to start all over again! And then some more people came in and sat down. And I started over again. And then he got up to go grab two more of his friends who had just arrived. And I sort of started over again but not really. (He was apologetic anyway.)
:rofl:
All told, I ended up with about nine or 10 people, which was a good number, considering--and only one woman kept looking at her watch. ;)
I also learned that 20 minutes is nowhere near a long enough time to talk about everything 2012 (we went over by about 10 minutes).
So that's it then! Weeks of preparation and it was over in a blink. I have a few regrets--I tried not to rush, but I know I talked too fast. I also left a few things out, but they were minor. The man's group of friends had a lot of comments but the other people who came in didn't. And I wish I had more time for Q&A--I had tried to make the whole thing more of a back-and-forth, but when I'd ask a question nobody would answer, so I'd charge ahead.
I talked with my friend afterward about maybe giving the talk again at her shop as a one-off class/seminar in case others were interested but weren't at the festival that early--anything to "get the word out" more and dispel the 2012 fear, you know? If I do that, I'll sure need to dust off my teaching/speaking skills. I remembered what it was like to get up in front of a group, but I was rusty!
Anyway, that's that! I KNOW that ASAH support pulled me through, so THANK YOU GUYS! :loveya:
I'm gonna crash now. HOW can there be no alcohol in this house, the one time I need it? :P :hi:
33. LOL
My uber-conservative fundie-Catholic Bush-worshippin' Beck-lovin' aunt LOVES to give me shit when I do something for no pay. And sure enough, as I was on my way out the door to go to the talk, she said, "Are you getting paid for this?" :banghead:
So it sure would make her happy to hear that I'm getting some cash for these ventures eventually! (But then she'd find something else to give me shit about. 'Tis her way, after all.)
My sub for the print article was "The end is near! For real this time! Or...you know...not..." :rofl:
I would be happy to do more of these. They're fun even though they're nerve-wracking. Then again, my MO when I acted was I'd be a wreck all day, and my nerves were the worst when I was standing backstage waiting for my entrance, but as soon as I stepped on the boards and the lights hit me, I was fine. Always been that way. :shrug:
31. After reading your experience I would say that you did the best you could have
given the circumstances!! I found myself wanting to kick that guy's ass for having to interrupt you time after time, just to get more people in there to hear you. It sounds like it was not very well organized....no fault of yours!!! I hope that the NEXT TIME, and there will be other next times, they include you more in the organization of the event! I would have made them all stay and listen to what you were there to tell them, but that's just me. My Dr. put me back on prednisone, so the Universe better be prepared for my ire if anyone hurts me or those I care about!! Take note everyone....I will be on this med for 30 days, unless I can get in to see a Dr. that can prescribe otherwise for my auto-immune disorder!! If any of you see "fur flying" step away from the 'puter and accept my apologies in advance. In the meantime MG, I'm proud of you!!! Ya did good!:fistbump: :yourock:
but he was so nice about it I couldn't be mad at him.
Yes, it was a bit disorganized (an empty restaurant? srsly?) but it was the "first annual" fair; I'm sure they'll smooth out the bumps in the future.
Good luck on the prednisone. It is a double-edged sword for sure. :hug:
