Is there such a cookbook?

A cookbook which has recipes that 1) contain nutritious, whole food ingredients (sugar free, gluten free etc.); 2) can be prepared fairly quickly; 3) have easy-to-obtain ingredients; 4) and offers vegan, vegetarian and meat options (I'm not interested in the meat options, but still...)

There are tons with some of the above but most seem to focus on recipes specific issues (diabetes, gluten/dairy/other intolerances, fungus, on and on), but is there one cookbook that combines them -- beyond a raw food diet?

I'd be so grateful to know about it and would gladly pay for a cookbook -- small, not too many choices of recipes (I get overwhelmed!) -- that had recipes to choose from within the above parameters.

It would be a godsend, as it's a project my daughter and I are going to start together next week: cooking nutritious meals together. I want to develop a selection of about 10 recipes to choose from, and a selection of healthier snacks and beverages. But we are really strapped for time -- which means the gathering of ingredients shouldn't entail finding an exotic market...lol, the prep and cooking time is hopefully less than 30 minutes.

I'm sure there are great recipes that fit the bill scattered throughout sites online, but I have no time to search everywhere.

We've relied on soy-based foods for so long and now we are hearing that's not good for us. Ughhhh..........

I would just really appreciate one reliable resource that encompasses all of these health and nutritional considerations in the recipes.

So, is there such a cookbook --online version and/or hard copy -- that you know of? If anyone knows, you guys will. :)

Thanks!!! :)

1. Have you seen the 101 Cookbooks blog
www.101cookbooks.com

She has a great cookbook: Supernatural Cooking which is close to what you are asking for.

There are lots of links to other cookbooks that feature healthy, whole grain, gluten free, vegetarian, etc.

Another great site featuring gluten free recipes (she has a cookbook too) is www.glutenfreegirl.blogspot.com

I think your project sounds awesome... people are really looking for easier, healthier recipes.

3. Thank you :)

Sounds like I'll have to cull the recipes in question and compile my own. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

2. cookbooks
I was wondering if there was even a market for cookbooks anymore. I find all my new recipes online. Trying to get all those things together in one place might be hard, but I would search for vegetarian recipes, and then just substitute rice, gluten free pasta, or whatever, in the recipes that you find. I've had great luck with online recipes.

This sounds like a fun project, cooking with your daughter. Does she like to search for things online? Maybe she could do it.

How about this?

I cook the same few recipes over and over--creature of habit here!

4. Thank you as well...

Nah, it's gonna be up to me to find it; my daughter doesn't do research.

I just get so overwhelmed with the gluten-free, vegetarian, non-soy, low-carb, low-sugar, low-fat....geeez Louise, it makes my head explode and then I don't change anything!

:(

I'm definitely a creature of habit, which is why I want to have a small, reliable repertoire to pull from.

Thanks!

5. Professionally, can't beat Moosewood

The Moosewood cookbooks have been my favorites when cooking professionally.

Everything has turned out well, even with substitutions.

6. Gosh, that takes me back....

Seems the Moosewood restaurant (and cookbooks) have been around since at least the late 80's. I remember learning about them when I became vegetarian at that time.

Actually, that's a great reminder. I should go back through the many cookbooks that I've had since that time (I know I have that one somewhere, which have sat somewhere, languishing over the last decade. The oldies may indeed be the goodies for what I'm looking for.

Thanks! :hi:

7. Ithaca is a cool town
That restaurant has been there since 1973, I think.

Yeah, the oldies can sometimes be the goodies. But they also have low-fat and New Classic books as well, and somewhere on there is a link with a few recipes to try yourself.

Bon Appetit!

8. I have one
I have the Moosewood Soup and Salad cookbook and it has provided some of the best recipes I use. I really should get some of the others, I have seen a few in Half-Priced Books.
