Thank you to all who post here. I appreciate so much your time |
|
and energy replying to questions and offering input and insight.
Yesterday morning I thought of a question and thought "I'll post in on DU in the "Astrology,..." group."
That's when it dawned on me that I "know" people who are willing to share wisdom and knowledge which they have spent many years acquiring; and who are willing to share their insight freely. I don't mean freely as in "free beer," though that too is the case. I mean freely as in without strings and/or expectations and also with what appears to be a gladness of heart and happiness in sharing, helping, and healing.
I know just enough about astrology to realize its complexity and the overwhelming amount of study required to understand the intricacies the universe has on our lives.
So I promised myself I'd make sure to post here my thanks and appreciation to those of you who take the time to share your hard earned knowledge and wisdom with those here who seek healing and insight into our lives.
Here it is:
To those who ask questions from which I (or others) might benefit - Thank you!
To those who offer advice based on their years of experience - Thank you!
To those who chime in with advice and healing regardless of length of experience - Thank you!
Thank you all. I (and perhaps others) appreciate what you do here, so very much.
:hi:

2. wonderful post, Cerridwen |
|
I want to add that I feel exactly the same way. Something will pique my curiosity and the first thing I often think of is that I can ask here and get some really great answers and insights. I love this group forum... since the awfulness of the election, I have spent more time here than anywhere else on DU. It really has healped to cleanse and soothe my battered soul.

I spend way too much time here as well, but it is worth it.
Thanks to everyone for their contribution to this very special place here on our DU!

I am still a learner when it comes to Astrology so I mostly lurk around here, but I really appreciate this group (and the old Meeting Room too). I learn so much from it, and I'm sure there are many more like me.
Everyone here is just so nice, and thoughtful. Very nice energy about the place...

7. Lovely post. Yes this is by far the most nourishing room in the DU house |
|
So important to have places and people....even in cyberspace...that feel 'safe' and kind....a soft place to fall.

8. The Meeting Room Astrology/Metaphysics Team is, indeed, Om sweet Om! |
|
:grouphug: Sometimes it blows me away, all the things we've explored here together.
I've learned SOOOOO much just hangin' out with everyone here! It even feels like more of a "soft landing" lately, without the cynics around starting fights or distracting from our train of thought.
O8) I'm glad we're all here! O8)

I always learn something in here--and it's usually that I don't know anything yet! And it's a very calm place, now that the Skeptic Squad has managed to get itself excluded.
(Funny how their "truth" has set us free, innit?)
Peace, dbt

10. How did the "skeptic squad" get "itself" excluded? |
|
Your mission statement says, "This group is intended as a positive place for those who desire a deeper discussion of these stated topics and is not intended as a place to argue the merits of beliefs or choices."
The mission statement excludes the skeptics; they did not exclude themselves.
Their truth has not "set you free" because this group has purposefully excluded any contradictory thinkers.

11. positive discussion is welcome |
|
disruption and argument are not
posters who respect others' beliefs and who are willing to discuss and perhaps try things with an open mind are very welcome.
folks who would rather just ridicule things they have never tried are not.

12. Through their own actions, perhaps. |
|
I looked back over the threads from the former Meeting Room. And some recent threads in the lounge. It was not unusual for someone to disagree with something a person posted and then make a point to "come in" and piss all over the thread. And yes, there is a difference between saying "I don't agree with what you said and here's why" and "no you're wrong and you're an idiot." One promotes discussion, the other promotes flamewars.
Due to this occuring many times, the admins inserted the disclaimer you mentioned in your post. It was not their "truth" which was the issue. It was the heavy-handed and mean-spirited way in which it was introduced.
Just my opinion. Your mileage may vary.

13. You missed the key word: |
|
This Group is for those who wish to positively explore issues having to do with Astrology, metaphysics & spirituality, homeopathy/alternative medicine and healing, Ascension, and other subjects having to do with holistic physical and spiritual growth & traditions.
This group is intended as a positive place for those who desire a deeper discussion of these stated topics and is not intended as a place to argue the merits of beliefs or choices.
Staying positive doesn't mean that you have to agree with everything posted in order to discuss. It means that you come to the discussion with an open mind, with respect for all, and without the need to engage in verbal competition, fencing, or ridicule to share your thoughts.
If there are people who exclude themselves because they choose not to engage in discussion without the need to proclaim themselves "right," others "wrong," or to "win," or because they prefer fighting to discussion, or they enjoy "going negative," that is self-exclusion by choice.

On more than one occasion. Tried posting threads that linked to skeptical sites, tried to get this group shut down. Your dog won't hunt.

15. basically by their behavior...... |
|
We framed our mission statement in a way to allow those who are interested and have a fairly deep understanding of many of these subjects to be able to do just that - DISCUSS without having flame wars with those who don't agree.
If you check into the many many threads form the meeting room, you will notice that certain skeptics did not want to discuss, their purpose was to disrupt and/or impose their thoughts and way of thinking on us.
As for being "free", the skeptics now have their own forum...if they want to *discuss* or whatever, they are certainly free to do so. We are grateful that we now have a peaceful place to talk about our interests....it was never about proving or disproving anything...we simply asked to be able to share our interests.
Think of it being like a place where Democrats can come to discuss things of interest to them without having RW come and bash every sentence...get it now??
Peace:) DR
