I am getting nervous about my dreams lately.
I have been having horrible, graphic, violent dreams the last 10 days. I alway have vivid dreams, but the last time I went through a phase of such violent vivid dreams was in late summer 2001.

2. I would say there are two possiblities
If you have a history of precognitive dreams, then perhaps this is some kind of warning or precognition.

Far more likely, this could imply a sense of something terrifying and overwhelming in your life that you are unable to come to terms with or deal with consciously. It would be something that seems very powerful and that you feel powerless to confront. (Easy to hazard a guess on this, but it could be something more personal.)

3. Curious.
I believe that dreams serve several functions. When we crawl into bed after a long, hard sometimes frustrating day, the subconscious mind takes over. It tries to resolve issues and problems that we can't seem to find any answers to. It replays scenes that we've experienced during the day. It interweaves them with maybe scenes from a movie, or childhood scenes. In my opinion, dreams serve as the following:

1) As an agent for resolving problems, issues which we are not able to resolve during out waking hours. We can be a king, ordering our serfs around. We can live in an imaginary world where anything is possible. There are no limitations like there are during the day. We can be both king AND serf. We can even be an onlooker watching the King and serf. It's the ultimate role-playing game and relief valve for frustrated humans.

2) Dreams can provide entertainment, help resolve issues, and I also believe it's a form of rest. If I am exceptionally tired, my brain tries to help me out by making my dreams exceptionally entertaining and entrancing. It's like my subconscious doesn't want me to wake up quite yet, so it tries to seduce me by showing exceptionally vivid images. It wants me to rest a little bit longer.

3) Lastly, dreams can have a prophetic image. I'm listing this one last because I don't believe it happens very often. I think we sometimes attach too much importance to dreams and their prophetic value. I have some family members who read way too much into their dreams. They dream about a fox, and they look up the meaning of this animal in their Jung lexikon. Or a dream about a plane crashing might be interpreted as a future event.

Now, I had a very vivid dream about 10 years ago. It was about flooding. I dreamed that I woke up around 4:00 am, with dirty brown water seeping into our house. It was a complete catastrophe. Apparently, there was some type of earthquake or tsunami outside the Oregon coast which caused a tidal wave to make it all the way to Portland.

We were able to save ourselves by thinking quickly. I was sure this was a deadly harbinger of things to come. There's no doubt it was the most realistic, clear dream I've ever had. I was SURE it was actually happening. I recall leaning down and tasting the dirty brown water. It had a salty taste = ocean water.

So far, nothing has come of it. HOWEVER, about 1 week later I looked out the window and saw a raccoon running down the street, in the middle of the day. I had never seen anything like it before, because raccoons are nocturnal animals. And to see one galloping like that, well it struck me as really strange.

The next day, we had what they call the Great Flood of Portland. This was just a few days after my vivid dream. I never connected until just now, because I was expecting some type of tsunami from the Coast.

As far as your dreams, I would keep an eye on them. Try to recall images. If it is a prophetic dream, it will probably be more vivid, accurate, and searing than an ordinary one. You will probably know the difference between the two.

Also, your post has been duly noted with time & date. If anything happens, there's your proof.

Sorry for the long post R., but you just made me realize something.

6. It would be really useful
to hear more details of the dream, ie, what did the graphic images relate to, in what way was it similar/different to the dreams in 001, etc. Sorry you are having such bad dreams. I guess we all are experiencing high levels of anxiety at this time. It comes out in different ways, is all. :)
