How does Karma show up in one's birth chart?
My whole life has felt like "payback time"! How do you read bad or good karma in your birth chart. Here's mine:

1. you've got a lot of squares
which aren't too easy, as you probably know.

when i get home from work, i'll do a vedic version of your chart. i'm no expert, but jyotish deals with 'karma' in the chart, perhaps better than western astrology.

just my .02 - i'm sure other folks have different and equally valid perspectives.

2. Karma and Karmic responsibilities is ruled by

the 12th house and Saturn. You have Pluto in your 12th and will be driven to search out your unconscious and exploring the unknown. The ruler of your 12th is your moon in Sagittarius in your 4th house and conjunct your Sun. A lot of your karma must be worked out in your home and through your emotions which are strong, usually optimistic but can be short sighted, sometimes seeing things only from your perspective. You have Venus conjunct Neptune in your 3rd which makes you idealize love, your relationships will have a hard time living up to your hopes, but you are capable of seeing and creating great beauty in life through art and communication. You have Mercury conjunct Chiron in your fifth, you have suffered through communication, probably as a child and your Mercury is square your Mars, you probably have suffered from fear of asserting yourself.Saturn is in your 2nd house and you may have suffered emotional (and or) financial poverty in childhood but you will slowly build a secure life through hard effort. You have Jupiter in your 8th trining your Sun and Moon (lucky you)) you are generous and love the company of others. Jupiter will bring the resources of others to you, so if you had a hard life in the beginning this Jupiter should help you to overcome much eventually.
I am not an astrologer, but here is what I see....you have some lovely planets and I see you as a warm, deep person who cares about others. Sorry that life has been hard, its been hard for me too, but God gave you gifts in your chart and I think you probably have a lot of blessings to sustain you through your problems. Good Luck!

3. grain of salt department
Edited on Fri Dec-17-04 11:51 PM by kineta
This interpretation of your chart is based on vedic astrology. i'm only a beginning student, so take it with a grain of salt. i won't get too personal - or write too much - but if it resonates, feel free to pm me and i'll tell you more.
---
It's no wonder you're thinking about karmic issues right now. according to vedic astrology you just entered a major period ruled by your 12th house ruler - the moon. This began on august 14th of this year and you might have noticed some changes around then. The bad news is, Moon is your most difficult planet and you may be feeling some pressure at this time. Maybe depression or confusion? The thing I really like about vedic astrology is that it offers methods of getting through the difficult times. More about that later.

In vedic astrology, the Moon rules the mind. My guess is you have intense spiritual inclinations and may possibly be drawn to an almost monastic life, - at least to a great deal of solitude. You may be very motivated towards the concept of spiritual liberation. I'm wondering if you feel confined in your home in some way? It seems that a meditative life is an appropriate path for you.

I imagine you must be a pretty intense person. you have Pluto conjunct your ascendant and Ketu (the south node) in the first house. I have Ketu in the first house too, Dennis Flaherty told me that people with Ketu in the first house often have 'crises of perception' - that is, you can perceive a lot of things other people can't and that leaves you confused about your perception of reality. It gives you a great bullshit detector as well. Mr. Flaherty describes Ketu as Neptune with an attitude - like a Shaolin monk - peaceful, spiritual, but just don't insult his mother ;-)

Your Sun and Moon are both in the lunar mansion called Anuradha (search 'anuradha nakshatras' for more info). It's main symbol is a lotus flower - "which reflects the ability and perseverance to blossom in the midst of life's trials and tribulations". The positive side of this sign is the ability to maintain friendships and cooperation with people while relentlessly pursuing your own goals. The negative side (and this is reinforced by having Pluto on your ascendant) is jealousy and the desire to control others.

Some data for you - Your ruling planet is the Sun. The planet Venus is very important in your chart, it is what is called Atma Karaka - the indicator of your soul. It is in Virgo in both your natal chart and a chart called the Navamsa, which makes it especially strong. Virgo is going to be a very important sign for you. Issues such as health and service will be important. I'm wondering how this manifests - do you work in a health related field, a doctor or a nurse, or possibly a relationship councelor? Or do you have health problems that keep you home? Mars is also an important planet in your chart, and a lucky one. It is both your solar and lunar ruler and is the ruler of the 9th house, which is very fortunate.

One of the best things you can do for yourself is strengthen the solar energy in your chart and do things to mitigate the difficulties you are getting from the moon, especially now that your lunar dasa has begun. You should seek some sort of solar aspect of god to worship - since the aspect of god you resonate with best (your ista devata) is indicated by the Sun (and to a certain extent, Mars). That and the fact that Sun is your ruling planet. The color red would be lucky for you. The gemstone for the Sun is a ruby. Red stones are good in general for both Sun and Mars. (If you are interested i can give you more info on this stuff). A traditional vedic cure for a malefic moon is to donate milk or white rice (to your local foodbank) on a Monday. Or to recite a lunar mantra. Don't wear pearls, moonstone, and avoid wearing white clothing.

4. This part really resonates with me!
... people with Ketu in the first house often have 'crises of perception' - that is, you can perceive a lot of things other people can't and that leaves you confused about your perception of reality.

And I have no idea where any of my planets are in the vedic way of astrology.

5. i wanted to add a couple things
hope you don't mind, Trailrider.

I was looking at your chart some more, wondering what areas of your life are causing you to feel like you have 'bad karma'
i was wondering if any of this fits:

seems like you don't feel like you have 'peace of mind', maybe you have a tendency toward pessimism and/or depression and don't consider yourself a 'happy' person most of the time.

if you have money problems, they are more likely caused by debt or tax problems than by lack of income. your income should be quite good, unless you have health problems interfering. in addition to possibly working in a health field, or psychology, you might work in a Venus related field, such as the arts, design, architecture, etc.?

there might have been conflict in your life between your money and other people's money - over an inheritance or taxes? Maybe an issue from around sept. 2000 - June 2001? or even something back in the very late 80's?

you may have had to deal with loss at one of these times, perhaps one, or both of your parents dying, and it's possible that these feelings are cropping up again now. recently, you went into a Jupiter sub-cycle (Nov 10th through DEC. 21). Jupiter rules your 8th house and is also located there, so when you go through Jupiter cycles or sub-cycles you might have to deal with 8th house issues - loss, taxes, inheritance. Right now, it seems more like worry or sadness over these things than a actual event.

would love to know if any of this is accurate.

6. I want to thank you all for taking the time to answer my post.
Most of the interpretations have been right on the money. As a young child, I suffered physical and emotional abuse at the hands of my mother. I lost both of my parents within six months of each other from unrelated causes when I was in my mid twenties. I married a man who also was abusive to me. When I divorced him, he talked me into giving up custody of my son, telling me that I had no education and no way of making a living, so giving him up was the best thing for him. Consequently, I did not see him again until he reached the age of 18, about ten years ago. I raised my daughter alone. Money has always been a problem for me, mostly because I just have no "money sense" at all. It means nothing to me. If I have it, I pay bills and spend it on those that I love. If I don't have it, I do without, and say "Oh well". Long ago I made a choice between art and science as a way to make a living. I chose science, and have been employed as a technician for the last 25 or so years. Lately, I've begun exploring the artistic side of myself, after realizing that the choice was an artificial one: I am not either-or, but I am BOTH. I plan to leave my current job next spring or summer and work as a park ranger or nature guide for the state parks, or perhaps a national park or monument. I love the outdoors, and a year and a half ago, I purchased a motorhome in which to live. I can now drive my "home" to anywhere in the country, but I find myself drawn to living near my children. I now realize that family is the most important thing in my life. I live by myself, except for my two dogs and a cat. I have no desire to remarry. I find it very comfortable to live alone and depend only on myself. The "living like a monk" situation fits me to a T. I enjoy the company of friends, but solitude is most comforting to me. As for health problems, I have battled depression as long as I can remember. My best antidotes to it is to take a long walk in the woods with my dog, or a long bike ride with friends. Fresh air and exercise works wonders.
Again, thank you all for your guidance. You've given me some insights into why I have lived this challenging life, and how I can understand why I react to some things as I do.

7. thanks for your candor, Trailrider
i wanted to add that you might want to hold off making any major decisions and big changes until mid-June. After June, any difficulties you might be experiencing this year should really improve and you should have a great deal more clarity.

please feel free to email me if you want to talk about your chart more.

8. Hi, on what are indications of KARMA,
Sorry I got here a bit late and the posted chart has already disappeared, (I don;t do personal readings on line anyway) but I did want to answer where to look for Karma in an astrology chart :

12th house, 4th house, 8th house

Moon and Moon's South Node

Saturn and Capricorn house

These are where you will indications of Karmic conditions.

Pay especial attention to the South Node and it's house position.

That is a major indicator.

And anyone's planets which fall conjunct
your South node is a past life person, come to collect so to speak - and there will be a "giving" to that person, of the nature of the planet indicated - whether you want to or not.

On the other hand, if your Planet falls on the other person's South Node, you will be the receivee.

But essentially The South Node conjunctions indicate a past life Karmic association .

As usual, without even seeing the chart, your observations are spot on. Thanks for your insight.
