cross-posting for alternative healing: vitamin B1 and diabetes |
|
You are what you eat! http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=222&topic_id=12433&mesg_id=12433This post in the Health forum discusses a study of how Benfotiamine (B1) mitigates diabetes (also how it prevents blindness from diabetes). Since I hate pills I got carried away and replied with some info on dietary sources of B1 and some of basic info on B1. xo

1. Assuming it is Type Two Diabetes, yes, it can help. |

In truth, the best thing I know of for Type Two is the Zone diet or some other kind of carb controlled regimen coupled with high doses of fish oil.
However, sadly, that is probably not anything a lot of people are willing to do. Most folks are willing to take about three pills per day for ANYTHING and that is just about the most you can count on for compliance. Diet changes are really tough for folks to accept, and I do understand it--I'm not thrilled with it either.
E impacts on blood sugar control, so do magnesium, alphalipoic acid, chromium, and biotin. Ginsing can also impact happily on blood sugar control, and I am a strong supporter of taking high doses of Omega Three (EPA and DHA!) as well.
If you get right down into the studies that are out there, blood sugar control and insulin resistance are probably at the root of a majority of our national health problems.
I strongly suggest a reading of Dr Barry Sears' works for anyone interested in health without a bunch of trips to the Dr's office.
Regards!
Laura
