a peace prayer I didn't write. . .

"I am that I am, and the divinity in me is going to make a difference on this planet. Even my small efforts will create an energy that is larger than I can imagine, and combined with the efforts of others, will create a lasting peace on earth."

I just posted this on a Lennon memorial thread in GD.

This is the response I got from the OP. . .

"very nice. thanks. here are some peace prayers.
Prayers for Peace

The Prayer of Saint Francis

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred ... let me sow love
Where there is injury ... pardon
Where there is doubt ... faith
Where there is despair ... hope
Where there is darkness ... light
Where there is sadness ... joy
Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek
To be consoled ... as to console
To be understood ... as to understand,
To be loved ... as to love
For it is in giving ... that we receive,
It is in pardoning ... that we are pardoned,
It is in dying ... that we are born to eternal life

Baha'i Prayer for Peace

Be generous in prosperity,
and thankful in adversity.
Be fair in judgement,
and guarded in thy speech,
Be a lamp unto those who walk
in darkness, and a home
to the stranger.
Be eyes to the blind, and a guiding light
unto the feet of the erring
Be a breath of life to the body of
humankind, a dew to the soil of
the human heart,
and a fruit upon the tree of humility.

Buddhist Prayer for Peace

May all beings everywhere plagued
with sufferings of body and mind
quickly be freed from their illnesses.
May those frightened cease to be afraid,
and may those bound be free.
May the powerless find power,
and may people think of befriending
one another.
May those who find themselves in trackless,
fearful wilderness---
the children, the age, the unprotected--
be guarded by beneficial celestials,
and may they swiftly attain Buddhahood

..........................

Hindu Prayer for Peace

Oh God, lead us from the
unreal to the Real.
Oh God, lead us from darkness to light.
Oh God, lead us from death to immortality.
Shanti, Shanti, Shanti unto all.
Oh Lord God almighty, may there be peace in
celestial regions.
May there be peace on Earth.
May the waters be appeasing.
May herbs be wholesome, and may trees and
plants bring peace to all. May all beneficient
beings bring peace to us.
May thy Vedic Law propagate peace all
through the world.
May all things be a source of peace to us.
And may thy peace itself, bestow peace on all
and may that peace come to me also.

..........................

Jainist Prayer for peace

Peace and Universal Love is the essence
of the Gospel preached by all
Enlightened Ones.
The Lord has preached that equanimity
is the dharma
Forgive do I creatures all,
and let all creatures forgive me.
Unto all have I amity, and unto none enmity.
Know that violence is the root cause of
all miseries in the world.
Violence, in fact, is the knot of bondage.
"Do not injure any living being."
This is the eternal, perrenial, and unalterable
way of spiritual life.
A weapon, howsoever powerful it may be,
can always be superseded by a superior one;
but no weapon can, however,

..........................

Muslim Prayer for Peace

In the name of Allah,
the beneficent, the merciful.
Praise be to the Lord of the
Universe who has created us and
made us into tribes and nations
That we may know each other, not that
we may despise each other.
If the enemy incline towards peace, do
thou also incline towards peace, and
trust God, for the Lord is the one that
heareth and knoweth all things.
And the servants of God,
Most gracious are those who walk on
the Earth in humility, and when we
address them, we say "PEACE."

..........................

Native American Prayer for Peace

Almighty God, the Great
Thumb we cannot evade to
tie any knot;
the Roaring Thunder that splits mighty trees:
the all-seeing Lord up on high who sees
even the footprints of an antelope on
a rock mass here on Earth.
You are the one who does
not hesitate to respond to our call.
You are the cornerstone of peace.

..........................

Another Native American Prayer for Peace

Oh Great Spirit of our
Ancestors, I raise
my pipe to you.
To your messengers the four winds, and
to Mother Earth who provides
for your children.
Give us the wisdom to teach our children
to love, to respect, and to be kind
to each other so that they may grow
with peace of mind
Let us learn to share all good things that
you provide for us on this Earth.

..........................

Shinto Prayer for Peace

Although the people living
across the ocean
surrounding us, I believe
are all our brothers and sisters,
why are there constant troubles in
this world?
Why do winds and waves rise in the
oceans surrounding us?
I only earnestly wish that the wind will
soon puff away all the clouds which are
hanging over the tops of mountains.

..........................

Zoroastrian Prayer for Peace

We pray to God to eradicate all the
misery in the world:
that understanding triumph
over ignorance,
that generosity triumph over indifference,
that trust triumph over contempt, and
that truth triumph over falsehood.

..........................

Sikh Prayer for Peace

God adjudges us according
to our deeds,
not the coat that we wear:
that Truth is above everything,
but higher still is truthful living.
Know that we attaineth God when we loveth,
and only victory
endures in consequences of which no
one is defeated.

..........................

Christian Prayer for Peace

Blessed are the PEACEMAKERS,
for they shall be known as
the Children of God.
But I say to you that hear, love your enemies,
do good to those who hate you,
bless those who curse you
pray for those who abuse you.
To those that strike you on the cheek,
offer the other one also,
and from those who take away your cloak,
do not withhold your coat as well.
Give to everyone who begs from you,
and of those who take away your goods,
do not ask for them again.
And as you wish that others would do to you,
do so to them.

Prayer

May today there be peace within you.

May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be.

May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith.

May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love

that has been given to you.

May you be content knowing that you are a child of God.

Let his presence settle into your bones, and allow your soul the

freedom to sing, dance, and to bask in the sun. God is there for each and

every one of you.

Old Adage

God is a circle whose circumference is everywhere and whose center is in every person.

Gandhi‚s grandson stayed 18 months with his grandfather, the day he was leaving his grandfather handed him a paper with these thoughts on it.Be the changes you want to see in the world.

SEVEN BLUNDERS THE WORLD MAKES THAT LEAD TO VIOLENCE

1. Wealth without work

2. Pleasure without conscience

3. Knowledge without character

4. Commerce without morality

5. Science without humanity

6. Worship without sacrifice

7. Politics without principals

His grandson added:

8. Rights without responsibility

Four other quoted by Gandhi -
1. “There is more then enough for everybody’s need but not enough for everybody’s greed.”
2. “Live simply that others may simply live.”
3. “Be the changes you want to see in the world”

4. On Gandhi’s gravestone:
“ Think of the poorest person you have ever seen and ask if your next act will be of any use to him.

Peace is not the absence of war but the presence of a higher evolution of human awareness with respect and trust and integrity toward all humankind.

Robert Kaufman added these thoughts:
“Competition without teamwork.
“Order without flexibility and balance.

I shall take my voice wherever there are those who want to hear the melody of freedom or the words that might inspire hope and courage in the face of despair and fear. My weapons are peaceful, for it is only by peace the peace can be attained. The song of freedom must prevail.

Paul Robeson

Bless us with Peace

O Source of peace, lead us to peace, a peace profound and true; lead us to a healing, to mastery of all that drives us to war within ourselves and with others. May our deeds inscribe us in the Book of life and blessing, righteousness and peace! A Source of peace, bless us with peace."

Thought it was worthy of posting here.

10. disclaimer:
I didn't compile this prayer thread. I had seen it before altogether elsewhere but Garybeck put it on a John Lennon memorial thread, though methinks someone else did the original research.

GB is an ace and I have droves of respect for him for a lot of other reasons though.

Just want to give credit where credit is due, even if I haven't a clue to whom it is I'm giving credit.

LOL

12. Yes, GaryBeck is wonderful. He's posted here a few times.
I'm sure that you're aware of this, but here's a link to his book for anyone else who's interested:

He posted a link to a radio interview that he did about his book, and it was wonderful.

edit to add: oops too old to r, sorry stella
Should be up there on Greatest page....

I think we should work on a Peace Post for New Year's
to post on GD.....

One of my favorite songs sung by Vince Gill and his young faughter at the time:

Let there be peace on earth

Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me
Let there be peace on earth the peace that was meant to be
With God as our father brothers all are we
Let me walk with my brother in perfect harmony.

Let peace begin with me let this be the moment now
With every step I take let this be my solemn vow
To take each moment and live each moment in peace eternally
Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me.

5. Cass .
when I go to church, it is to the Religious Science one. I started that over two decades ago, and it is just where I feel at home. I don't like the far right religions.

This is the song we sing at the close of every service. Let there be Peace. And let it begin with me. It is a beautiful sentiment. Nothing says it more. I keep the copy of the lyrics on my desk and sing it to myself. I used to do another hymn every morning. Had it taped to my bathroom mirror. It was . This is my Father's World. and to him we will sing .. not sure those are the lyrics at all . but one verse was about the spheres do sing! And we know they do.

The real pity of organized religion is so many lose that tender spirit that just rejoices as the whole planet does as its splendor and in honor of the creation, and creator. Obviously, I don't have the same image of the 'creator' as some do. But this is a magickal world.

6. Oh how nice....
I have always been such a strong advocate for peace.
I knew as a child that the Viet Nam war was wrong wrong wrong.
Before any one else got it....

Every Christmas I play Vince Gill's Christmas album LET THERE BE PEACE.
I am not a big fan of country music but that CD is magic
for me. The peace song, and some songs he wrote himself after
the death of his brother.... very powerful....
I have almost worn it out....

7. I found these lyrics..
I feel the need to explain that I do not personally ascribe to the Christian faith. Although I do have dear friends who do and we don't disagree at all. We just love each other.

This may sound a bit hokey. But when I woke up every day and sang a Praise, I felt healed and whole. Not sure why I stopped.
Time to start again.
Thanks for letting me share this with you all.

This is my Father’s world, and to my listening ears
All nature sings, and round me rings the music of the spheres.
This is my Father’s world: I rest me in the thought
Of rocks and trees, of skies and seas;
His hand the wonders wrought.

This is my Father’s world, the birds their carols raise,
The morning light, the lily white, declare their Maker’s praise.
This is my Father’s world: He shines in all that’s fair;
In the rustling grass I hear Him pass;
He speaks to me everywhere.

This is my Father’s world. O let me ne’er forget
That though the wrong seems oft so strong, God is the ruler yet.
This is my Father’s world: the battle is not done:
Jesus Who died shall be satisfied,
And earth and Heav’n be one.

This is my Father’s world, dreaming, I see His face.
I ope my eyes, and in glad surprise cry, “The Lord is in this place.”
This is my Father’s world, from the shining courts above,
The Beloved One, His Only Son,
Came—a pledge of deathless love.

This is my Father’s world, should my heart be ever sad?
The lord is King—let the heavens ring. God reigns—let the earth be glad.
This is my Father’s world. Now closer to Heaven bound,
For dear to God is the earth Christ trod.
No place but is holy ground.

This is my Father’s world. I walk a desert lone.
In a bush ablaze to my wondering gaze God makes His glory known.
This is my Father’s world, a wanderer I may roam
Whate’er my lot, it matters not,
My heart is still at home.

9. And the music of the spheres .
that line just grabbed me.

The whole universe turns on such precision. That's what gives us Astrology. I don't understand it, but it has been the same tune for as far as we know eternity.

As the planets orbit, we hear the sound.

You picked an interesting verse. I'm finding more and more that I just need grounding. I need to affirm that my heart is at peace.
