Sacred Contracts by Caroline Myss |
|
Has anyone here read it? I figured if anyone has, it would be people in this group. I generally respect the author but I'm having problems getting into this book. I'm about 1/3 through (120 pages out of approx 360) and she seems to be still justifying her theory as opposed to getting at the heart of things. I want to get to the heart of the book.Is this book worth persevering through it? All critiques of this author and book are welcome!

1. I'm not that familiar with her. |
|
But I did quote her in a "stellascope" I sent out shortly after 9/11 that was quoted on NPR. I later had someone on the "Seeker's on a Unique Path" debunk the basis of her historical reference. Never persued it beyond that.
Ya know, there was a controversy on this forum about Karen Bishop's stuff a while ago. I don't disagree with most of what she says. I think she and I might have a peculiar Mercury aspect and it's a problem of nothing more than semantics. I wish she was funnier but that could be a total projection.
If reading Caroline's stuff seems like a chore then perhaps there might be a similar issue to what I have with Karen, though we've never met.
Perhaps you can find greater insight elsewhere.
best to you as ever,
ps hey another poster here is harboring non profit fantasies as well. I may start my laughter foundation when Saturn goes into Virgo, and "suddenly. . .we can all become philanthropists." That would be a total hoot.

2. Tell me more about that other poster |
|
Maybe she and I could help each other. I'm going to check when Saturn goes into Virgo, post it on my calendar, and then bug you about a foundation when the time comes. ;)

Lord only knows I could be so absent minded as to forget my soul's purpose.
Kidding.
I'll PM you about what I've got thus far.

I got through 2/3's of the book and gave up. I think she excessively complicates things. She wants us to view a problem through an archetype and astrological house. I don't see how this helps anymore than seeing a situation more directly. Sorry, I just can't recommend this book although I did find another book of hers worth reading.

6. Interesting. I also started the book and did not finish it. |
|
This was a couple years ago, though, before I had had as much exposure to these ideas as I do now and the book was kind of creeping me out. I have been meaning to go back to it and give it another try, but now that I hear a couple other people have had problems with it, maybe my newness to the topic was not the only reason I gave up.

She ties in the archetypes with us. As you go through the book she'll have you make cards which I found fascinating. I have enjoyed all that I've read of hers. In fact she was the one who gave me great interest in medical intuition.
She's down to earth, tries to get people to leave their ego's at the door and she is pretty solid in her education and relating her own experiences.
Keep reading, unless you have no interest at all in her way of getting us to look at our own "contracts" with ourselves and others, I think you'll like it too. :)
on edit: Oops, I just read you had given up on it, sorry about that.
