Requesting peaceful vibes for my mother, please.

One of my sisters called me tonight, and said that our mom is ready to let go.

Mom has been ill for a number of years, but normally able to function quite well. Over the past 8 months or so, she has really been having a tough time. She's tried to hang on, but she's so very tired. She's been in a nursing home for the past couple of weeks, to get IV antibiotics, and there is a virus going around there. Mom has it, and it is making her even more miserable.

Today, she asked that her feeding tube be turned off. Mom hasn't been able to eat much by mouth for a long time, so has been hooked up to the tube for nutrition. Now, it has been turned off, and she has told my siblings that she just doesn't want to fight anymore; she wants to go.

I'm going to Oregon tomorrow to spend a few days with mom. My heart is breaking, but I won't be begging her to stay around just because of me and my siblings.

If you could please send peaceful vibes to my mom, that her passing may be gentle, I would most appreciate it. I don't know how much longer she has, but I want every moment to be the best it can be for her.

you and your family. What courage your Mom has to make the decision to turn off the feeding tube. She sounds like a very strong woman who wants to live and die on her own terms. Having been through this with my father last year, and my mother 6 years ago, I don't have any wisdom for you. The things that helped us most were having a good hospice team, and having a family who could all agree on trying to make the best decision for our parents. Spending time with them and talking to them in their final days was so special for us. When my Dad was in the process of transitioning and no longer lucid, we would bathe him and change his bed, even though he was probably disconnected from his physical body. We talked to him, sang to him, and sat with him. He left his body early one morning, when all of us were sleeping.

May you and your family find peace and love in the days to come.
