My husband, who was supposed to lose his job Dec. 31, got laid off today instead. That's 5 days of pay lost, money we can ill afford to lose. He's really upset.
Our 22-year-old daughter has been acting like a flaming bitch since she came home from college a week ago. Today she yelled at me for not giving her dog the right command when I put on its coat to take it outside. I was doing her a favor taking care of the dog because she's got a bad cough. She's always been rude and temperamental, but this time it's really awful. And we're stuck with her until Jan. 22. Her boyfriend is also staying with us and they're constantly fighting.
I stopped by my office to drop off some cookies. I work part-time as a marketing writer but haven't gotten any assignments since October. My editor didn't say there would be work for me any time soon. I was too depressed to ask.
I'm getting a sore throat and achy muscles, but I have to cook Christmas Eve dinner and then show up at our UU church at 4 PM tomorrow to set up the snacks and juice for the reception prior to the 5 pm service. I hope they reimburse me for the stuff I bought, because we need the money.
Sorry to be such a whiner. If it were only one of these things, I could handle it. But it's all too darned much.

2. I'm sending you light and a wee bit of advice |
|
Explain to your daughter that people who live together treat each other with respect, and if she insists on being hateful and rude she can find another place to live.
We had to use the "tough love" thing a couple of years ago, and it worked. She straightened up and never said another unkind word to any of us. She still has a temper, but she keeps it under control, and lets her anger out in acceptable ways now.
Happy Christmas.

You do not need to put up with her ill temper on top of everything else.
Hope things will get better for you very soon.

9. totally agree, except... |

about the doggie. Rude daughter and argumentative boyfriend can straighten up or go packing, unless of course they are paying you some rent $$, in which case they can straighten up or you'll raise rent accordingly. But defenseless doggie needs a safe haven ;-) in case rude daughter doesn't find digs that allow dogs.
In the meantime

I know that others are telling you to send her packing, but I also know how that is sometimes not an option. Sometimes it is important to take a break and take care of you. After you have done that, then it is also important to give your daughter a hug (even when you feel like punching her, lol) and let her know she is loved. Sometimes that is all it takes to soften things with them. I have a 21 year old son who needs those hugs so much right now and I am giving them. It is amazing how a little bit of true love heals. find someone to talk to who won't give solutions but just listen to you. It will help.
Hearts to you, your daughter, her boyfriend and your husband,

7. And Nobody can hug you like your mother can hug you! |

It's a world unto itself.
Anger management techniques recommend sending one of the bickering couple out for a very long walk or something away from the house for 1 hr to cool off.
Happy Holidays!
