Update: on *Kitties* Long Story .... Bad News or Good News With Overtures of Manifestations
Edited on Tue Apr-21-09 05:54 AM by MagickMuffin
Well things started turning bad. The kitty babies refused food, starting on Friday night and on through Sunday. Hubby found a recipe on the web ( from someone who claims to be a breeder ) and it involved cows milk. NO, NO, NO, cats are lactose intolerant. It made them have diarrhea and wasn't a good idea. Kohaku was also having an eye problem. I would use a warm moistened cotton-ball to rub them and that seemed to help a little but he was still have trouble keeping them open.

So, Sunday I went to Petco to buy some KRM (kitten replacement milk) and a bottle. Oh this has got to work. I spoke with someone there who seemed to be very helpful about nursing kitties.
I get home all excited about having food that the kitties will certainly like, except they didn't like it and were still refusing to eat. They were distressed and I was getting distressed along with them. They were crying a lot. I was crying a lot. I didn't understand why the Universe/Cosmos brought us together, and why I was having this problem. I was confused and bewildered.

So, I call back to talk to the girl at Petco who had helped me earlier. She had already gone home but was told someone else could help me, I waited and waited yet never got connected. I hung up and called back and told the guy I had been on hold for 10 minutes and needed to speak to someone about my sick kitties. He gave me some good info and even gave me a Rescue Clinics phone number. I called them and left an urgent message. I didn't think I would hear back from them until Monday. But around 7:00 someone called me and talked to me, I explained everything to her and she said I should put an ad thru Craigslist and asked if I had ever done one, Nope I replied. She said she would do it for me. She also put out calls to several people to try and help out. We hung up and she called me back and told me that I should go buy some Fancy Feast Ocean White Fish, and she would still try and find me help. I went out to make the purchase and called her from the store. She told me she hadn't had any luck on reaching anyone, but that they needed to see a Vet, and offered to pay for the visit if the Vet would take a credit card over the phone. I got home and the little boy (Kohaku) took to it without any problems, as a matter of fact he was eating it like it was going out of style. Kagome still refused eating anything. Again why is this happening.

I finally get a phone call from someone who said they were a bottle feeder. They lived too far away for us to meet up. Then at 10:00 I received a call from a very nice lady who wanted to know everything. I told her the long story about how we found the kitties and that there was someone who offered to pay the Vet bill. She also told me she would do the same, except the Clinic she uses has a Fund set up in honor of her deceased friend who was a huge animal lover and especially loved kitties. She gave me the info to call to make an appointment, but said she would call and let them know I was coming. She was just so happy to help me because I rescued these kitties.

On Monday the Rescue Clinic called and still wanted to pay for the Vet's visit, so I said I would make a couple of calls to some Clinics in my area. Nope none of them would take a credit card over the phone.

Oh well, I have a back up plan and decided to take up the other offer. Before going to the Vet I received another call from a bottle feeder (She saw the ad on Craigslist. I had looked earlier for the ad and finally saw it. It was a very generous ad and she was so nice for doing it.) and she REALLY wanted to help. She ask if she could come over and bring supplies, she said she can get them to eat. She brought some goats milk, she said she had real good luck with it. Nope, Kagome will NOT eat for her either. She left me a heating pad we placed under their bedding, she said it should help generate warmth and make them want to eat.

We see the Vet, and they take a stool sample the tests indicted they have intestinal worms :( and check them out. The Vet explained everything to us and said they couldn't test them for FVL and other diseases until they were 12 weeks old. He said Kagome was sicker than Kohaku because she had become so dehydrated. He gave us a lot of supplies for us to try and get them healthy again. They even showed us how to administer the medicine. They also gave us a couple cans of high calorie kitty food.

We get home and opened the new kitty food, once again Kohaku laps it up. Kagome won't go near it. "Damn it Kagome, it IS time for Tough Love. I will not just sit back and let you dictate your desire to waste away." I started forcing the milk into her mouth, she fights me, but I am persistent. I get some milk in her and she no longer gets to decide to refuse the food.

Hubby and I go out to check up on the garden, plants need watering and I have been pulling Queen Ann's Lace a terrible weed problem we are having. I wouldn't bother with it, but these pesky plants after they bloom they have those tiny stickers that stick to everything. So, I'm pulling the QAL by our building out back when I hear a tiny meow. I look over and lo and behold there is another little kitty baby. I start to walk over to her and she starts walking over to me. She lets me pick her up and we head over to the gravel part of our yard where we have some chairs set out. She is extremely gentle. I put her down and she walks over to where hubby has been building mounds for our squash plants. She hangs out with us. I decided to take her in to see if she recognizes her siblings. Apparently they seem to remember each other and they are glad to see her. She also had an eye problem and since we had some medicine for the other kitties we used it on her also. We have been feeding them throughout the night and mixing the moist food with some milk in a plunger. Kagome still is fighting but she is actually starting to eat and that is ALL that matters.

The kitties are starting to be more playful with each other, and whenever we come in they are happy to see us and get out of their bed to come and greet us.

I have a few pics and will post some later. I apologize that my stories are so long and detailed. But You guys are my only family that would care about my adventures. My family wouldn't understand the reincarnation part.

I need some sleep, having neglected having much because I have been so worried about the babies. I hope my story makes sense, since I have been sleep deprived and have read and reread it to make sure it does, but alas what can I say except I'm soooo sleepy.

Be sure to check back later for the pics. They are so cute.

I certainly didn't know what to do after they refused to eat. I'm so thankful that I was able to find such caring people that helped me through it all.

3. Finding the third kitty days later
Doesn't that mean the mother is still around?

9. I guess the mother is still around,
but she is very young and possibly doesn't know how to care for them adequately, she is probably only a year old. I'm pretty sure her mama is the same mama of my feral kitties and I haven't seen her around in over a year.

I had a rescued kitty years ago she was only 4 weeks old and was lost from here mama. It had been raining constantly for days when we found her at the park where we had gone to have lunch. Years later she had a litter of 3 kitties. She didn't really know what to do, I was there for the birth. The first one born was a breach kitty and didn't have a sac, it literally clawed it's way out, and poor Astra Luna was screaming in so much pain. I tried to help as much as I could, but it was extremely painful. The next 2 were normal births, but Astra didn't eat the sac off of them. I had to do it or they would have died. Astra never carried them in her mouth. She wasn't upset when we found them new homes. She wasn't cut out to be a mama.

I don't think the kitties would have been able to survive without my intervention. It seems as though most of the feral cats around here don't live very long. So, I did consider the consequences of taking them in to try and give them a chance. And since they seemed to be having upper respiratory problems they more than likely would have not lived very long. At least that is what the Vet told us.

4. I didn't realize that I was holding my breath
pulling for Kagome until the last kitten showed up. You, your husband and everyone that chipped in really are amazing. Have you decided on a name for the last kitten?

5. Oh, MM, this story brought tears to my eyes
I'm so glad the kitties found you (because, after all, kitties find us instead of the other way around, right? ;) ) and that they're doing better. You've really gone the extra mile for these little fuzzies. I agree with Dream--you're going to receive the blessings of the Universe for your efforts.

11. Oh definitely, they find us
Every kitty I have owned found us. We have really only had rescued kitties.

Astra Luna was found at a lake. My hubby found her while I was at work. She got hit by a car. I wanted her back so bad and made a wish to the Cosmos to return her. 9 months later my wish was granted.

Astra found at the park, 4 weeks old and lost from her mama. It had been raining for several days. I knew for sure that it was Astra Luna 1 when I let her outside and she walked over to where we had buried her. Astra loved birds, I mean really loved them. We would bird watch from the window together. We even had one for a little while and she would give it head hugs.

Poor Simba was found in the middle of the road on our way home from a friend's house. It was probably 2 in the morning. It was hard seeing him and we decided to stop and check on him. He seemed like he had been hurt. We brought him home on a frizbee. He was a Russian Blue. He loved playing the synthesizer we had on the floor.

Electra was brought home from work when it appeared she had been abandoned. I feared she would get run over since my office building was on a busy highway. She was a Maine Coon. She loved to climb on top of my chair and sit on my shoulders.

Tasha was my best friends cat that we adopted along with his dog after he passed away. Tasha was a long haired tabby and the dog was a American Eskimo. They loved each other very much.

Sateeva was another adopted kitty my neighbor gave to us after her brother died. She could care for her and would have had her put to sleep. We couldn't let that happen.

Kilala was found at my in-laws, which I've told you about her before. She doesn't like the litter box.

Then there is Inuyasha, Sango, and the first Kagome my feral kitties. Mama kitty had them in our yard and I guess she knew we would take care of them. They loved playing catch the alien man. I had several alien men that I tied fishing line to and would make them chase them. They were very good at catching them and biting them. One poor alien lost his head.

I :loveya: the kitties and enjoy their personalities. They are very loving creatures. I've never owned one that had any behavior problems. A little neurotic at times but never mean.

All right enough of my kitty history

6. Latest Update: Good News to report this time around ;=D
So, after waking up, we fed the kitties (still having to force feed Kagome and Kikyo, but Kohaku is going strong eating on his own) and gave them their medicine. Then before hubby made dinner he went in to check on them and Kagome was eating from the bowl. While dinner was being cooked I went in to check on them and Kikyo was also starting to eat on her own. YIPPEE, this is such a relief that they are really starting to turn the corner. Here's the pics I promised.

Thank you everyone for the support. I really needed it this time :loveya:

12. I'm not a cat expert; are they what you call tabbies?
Whatever they are, they're my favorite kind of cat in terms of looks. (The gray striped cats...)

I'm really allergic to cats, so I can't have one. :(

They're so beautiful! Thank you so much for posting these pictures and the update.  :loveya:

13. Yep, they're tabbies
I'm so sorry you can't have any kitties of your own. They are some of the best pets. But I love all kinds of animals. As a kid I always thought it would be fun to have an animal sanctuary.

They are so sweet they are starting to climb up hubby's pant legs. It is so funny to watch, they are also play fighting. Learning to clean themselves, next it's litter box training. We have a make shift one with shredded paper, but they don't like it very much. Will have to go buy some clay litter because we only have the clumping kind and that is not something little kitties should be using. They could ingest it and it could be fatal.

14. What pretty babies!
Tabbies are my favorite, even though I've not had one. Right now, my grey and white kitty is curled up on the couch, ignoring my oohs and aahs over your kitties. She was a feral cat our neighbors found and gave to us, and she rules the roost.

19. They are so adorable!!!
Look just like my "yeller" kitties when they were babies!

I think the reason all these cats are "finding us" MM, is because we are natural mothers, natural caretakers. I believe they know we have a deep understanding & connection to nature, so they are drawn to us. I also agree that the feral mothers are inexperienced & clueless, probably the inbreeding has caused limited metal abilities, too.

Post more pix as they grow. They are soooo cute!
