Has anyone here tried acai berry? |
|
I tend to stay away from the latest overhyped product, and this definitely fits the category. I know there are just tons of scams out there with this product, unfortunately.
But, when confronted with a display of acai juice at Whole Foods, I bought some, with the idea that a small amount of it would probably satisfy my fruit/vegetable requirement easily. (Somehow I tend not to eat 8-10 servings per day).
My experience with this juice is, OMG, what in the world is in this stuff? It has drug like effects, practically. It feels sort of like when you start thryoid medicine. I try to find out about it and a few places say "natural caffeine" but it doesn't feel exactly like caffeine.
This is like, LOL, I don't think the FDA can do anything about this, since it is just fruit juice and nothing is added, but my, it is like a food/drug.
Guess I am going to have to muscle test amounts to make sure I don't overdose.

Probably about 2.5 ounces or so. I'm going back to 1 ounce. I would definitely exercise caution.

3. I tried something with acai berry in it once. Wasn't impressed and didn't like the taste. |
|
Then again, my tolerance for stimulants is pretty high (I'm still on 3-5 cups o' coffee a day with no plans to reduce because...I can't).
Your experience sounds very interesting, Celebration. I'll have to remember it.

4. I'm on two cups of instant |

I have talked myself into being fine with that.
Maybe it is some caffeine like substance in acai berry. I really don't know.
The taste isn't particularly good, and certainly not sweet, but in small amounts, it was fine. I didn't feel like gagging, or anything even close to it.
I gotta believe that the effect is more or less completely dependent on the version of acai berry ingested. I bet there is a lot of it that has virtually no effect!
The reason that I compared it to thyroid medicine is that once I accidentally took a T3 pill (not good), and the colors and sharpness of everything sort of amazed me. There seemed to be a lot more contrast between things like the traffic lights and the street, for instance, if that makes sense. Acai berry, of that particular kind, in that particular amount, had the same sort of effect. Wow! Why is that traffic light SO RED? Strange.
I just looked at my bottle and it is made by Genesis Today and called Acai 100. I have to say that the effect may vary by bottle as well. That's why I was wondering if other people had tried it.
Thanks for your report!

and no one has tried it. ND said it was originally used as an anti-oxidant and stimulant, but that's all she knew. Your results are interesting.

7. kinda cool that it kills leukemia cells |
|
I don't have any that I know of, though. It looks as if the energy aspect of it has not been studied. I looked in PubMed and they have studied the antioxident value in gobs of studies, but I doubt if that has anything to do with helping energy levels. So, like you, I have no idea.

8. Chiming in to add Goji Berries / Goji Berry juice to your "must try" list. |
|
I can't vouch for the Acai berries, but Gojis give me the grins. The scientific measurements state that there are several times the amount of antioxidants per serving than blueberries and equivalents. Cheers!

9. I got some tonight and will try them tomorrow. |

Full report at night.
When you said Gojis give you the grins, you mean you somehow feel happy, right?

10. I picked some up at my health food store to try a week ago |
|
Not using the brand you are - I have Nature's Plus Acai Liquid. It tastes good but no discernable effects yet. It suggests just drinking a capful a day. Maybe I will try more tonight and see what that does for me.

and I ate a bowl of the pure stuff.
It is a wonderful energizer with sustained effects. The best part is that it is so full of vitamins and it kicks ass on the bad cells lurking the your body.
Wish I could have have it every day.
