The latest from MG Jr., a.k.a. big spirit in a tiny body...

He told me this morning that there was some discussion of The Wizard of Oz in school yesterday. MG Jr. hasn't seen it yet, so I told him we could see it sometime, and I outlined the plot, VERY briefly, concluding with "...and there's a good witch and a bad witch." And he replied, "...and they're the same person."

Once again, Jr. cuts to the chase. I hated to tell him that although normally he'd be quite right in assuming that, in this movie they were two separate people. I didn't feel like going into good vs. evil archetypes, though--it's only a three-minute drive to school.

1. I'm not casting aspursions....

....but HE HASN'T SEEN THE WIZARD OF OZ YET?!?!?

I'm just struck by something I've been thinking about lately - in MY day, things like the Wizard, Sound of Music, etc, were big, BIG events that only came around once a year, so you made SURE you were in front of the tv when one of those 3 channels showed it!

He's a 40-year-old midget, and he jumped from Teletubbies to Star Wars and Back to the Future in one giant leap! He hasn't seen the major flicks, but I have offset this oversight by reading him lots of classics (the originals, not modernized versions) like Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, etc.

I know what you mean about those movies being an event. I still remember pitching a major hissie fit because my mom dragged me out to the mall one Saturday night and made me miss Chitty Chitty Bang Bang!
