1. I'm sort of a lukewarm Obama supporter.
But at the end of the day I'm not hugely bothered, because both seem to be good candidates and I'm fairly certain that - barring some miracle in Iraq - both of them have a very very good shot at beating John McCain. (I consider Romney eminently beatable and I'm not too worried about going up against him.)

My main issue with Hillary is the dynasty thing. I liked Bill - moreso after he left office and we saw what a *true* catastrophe of an administration looked like. I just have a fundamental problem with the Presidency remaining in the control of two families for over two decades. I'm also not looking forward to another four or eight years of incredibly divisive politics, which I feel pretty certain would accompany another Clinton Presidency.

Yeah, a lot of Obama's "hope" rhetoric is pretty vague, but this is politics. He's a unifying force in a way I don't think Clinton could ever be, regardless of the vitriol spewed in GD-P.

2. I like Obama
He's my second choice behind my idea candidate of Edwards. He has FAAAR less negatives than Hillary..as in I have heard moderates, independents, and some republicans praise him. Thats a good sign for the GE. Also, I think Congress would work with him. With Hillary? Not so sure, Repukes truly HATE her.
Clinton has such high negatives, even in the party, I'm not sure she's electable. I would vote for her (even though I dislike her) in the GE though.

4. I'll just repost what I said in the dungeon poll
Edwards was the only one I was rooting for. Both Obama and Clinton leave me cold for various reasons though if I had to pick, Obama would edge out Clinton by a small fraction. On the other hand if it comes down to electability I'd say Clinton would be the choice, but only that I think she stands a better chance than Obama. Personally I'm pessimistic and don't think either one is electable against McCain. I hope I'm wrong.

Anyhow, I chose the third option.

5. I'd like one who believes in aliens,
but not in god. And can transform into a truck.

9. That would be Lee Mercer, Jr.
I think he can also transform into a guitar. Don't be too impressed though--he's totally out of tune.

8. As I said on the UK forum, I just like all (both) Dems better than any of the Republicans
Edited on Mon Feb-04-08 05:16 PM by LeftishBrit
It's hard to tell in advance who would be better as *president*; it's often quite different from who would be better as *candidate*.

While Hillary isn't as left-wing as I'd like, I don't think any Dem with a chance at the presidency would be either. Unusually, I find it hard to pick one of the frontrunners- and in any case, the candidates whom I like are rarely those who get elected (former one-woman 'Dukakis Fan Club of Great Britain' speaking here!) I would quite like Bernie Sanders or Barbara Boxer, but realistically neither would get elected.

Mind you, when I started following American politics, it would have seemed inconceivable that a major party candidate would be anything other than a white male, so this election is quite interesting from that point of view.
