CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — A Marine faces court-martial in the 2006 death of a 19-year-old Calhoun, Ga., native who died in Iraq.

The Marine Corps has charged Cpl. Douglas Michael Sullivan with culpable negligence in the death of Lance Cpl. Cody Warren. Warren was part of the Chattanooga, Tenn.,-based 14th Marine Regiment reserve unit known informally as Mike Battery.

Fellow Marines say Sullivan shot Warren in the back of the neck as Warren worked radio duty in a combat operations center. Warren was killed during deployment to Iraq in 2006.

Brandon Morgan, who also deployed with Mike Battery, said the death left a scar on the Mike Battery Marines and on Warren’s family.

“I’m kind of glad that he did get charged,” Morgan said of Sullivan. “In the same sense, you never want to wish that on another Marine, but he took one of my good friends away from me.”
