Pacific briefs: Marine Corps offering recruits bonus for OCS Stars and Stripes

The Marine Corps is offering a $4,000 bonus to entice recruits to go through Officer Candidate School.
The Corps estimates that 475 recruits will take the bonus, which will be paid after recruits receive their commission and sign a contract for 48 months, said Capt. Philip Bonincontri, Corps compensation policy chief.
No Marines currently in the Corps who have been selected to go through OCS are eligible for the bonus, Bonincontri said.
The move is meant to support the growing demand for junior officers as the Corps increases from about 186,000 Marines now to 202,000 by fiscal 2011, he said.
