Bonus program for Marines extended

A program offering cash bonuses for Marines who choose to delay their expiration of active service (EAS) date to go on one additional deployment has been extended through Dec. 31, the Corps announced this week. It had been scheduled to end Sept. 30.

The Combat Extension Program, launched in October 2007, offers payments of $3,000 or $6,000 for Marines who extend their time to deploy with a unit.

The $3,000 bonus is offered for those who extend to go on a seven-month deployment, while those agreeing to deploy for a year can receive $6,000, according to a Corps-wide message, MarAdmin 116/08.

A written agreement will require deployment within the U.S. Central Command Area of Responsibility, which includes the Middle East and Africa.
