Navy twins form Trinidad become American citizens

The Phillip twins — Sophia, left, and Sonia — do everything together, including becoming U.S. citizens Friday at Yokosuka’s Chapel of Hope. Born and raised in Trinidad, both women are E-3 firemen on the Sasebo-based USS Essex amphibious assault ship.

Navy twins form Trinidad become American citizens

YOKOSUKA NAVAL BASE, Japan — Look for the mole placement, advise Sonia and Sophia Phillip.

Their faces won’t give them away to most people. Neither will their clothes — both women wear the U.S. Navy uniform on the Sasebo-based amphibious assault ship USS Essex.

And, after Friday, their passports won’t distinguish them either, as both raised their hands together to become U.S. citizens during a naturalization ceremony at Yokosuka Naval Base.

Because the two 19-year-old twins from Trinidad do everything together, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services made an effort to keep it that way.

“They even answered the questions together — in stereo,” said Immigration Services assistant attaché Stacy Strong, who interviewed them. “I’ve never seen like that before.”

1. I am in the Navy
and I am glad these people have become citizens.

What other country allows non-citizens to serve in its military and take home retirement checks? None, but the US. So, thankfully, we have garnered more supporters. How else can we oppose the growing number of terrorists the W administration is creating?

2. I know. It's f****ing awesome that we pay non citizens for doing nothing, right?
It doesn't matter, as long as everyone in the whole world is against W.

3. Yup
Just stay in for 20 and you can be rich in the Philippines.

I seriously do not understand why a military would let non-citizens participate. It seems contradictory, right? I love the idea of America as a melting pot, but let's evaluate the people we are paying...
