I hope this is the correct forum for this article/transcript of the CBS News show 60 Minutes that I (and probably a lot of you on DU) completely missed. :wow:
Deserters: We Won't Go To Iraq

Dec. 8, 2004

60 Minutes Wednesday talks to U.S. soldiers who have deserted their units and are staying in Canada

(CBS) The Pentagon says more than 5,500 servicemen have deserted since the war started in Iraq.

60 Minutes Wednesday found several of these deserters who left the Army or Marine Corps rather than go to Iraq. Like a generation of deserters before them, they fled to Canada.

What do these men, who have violated orders and oaths, have to say for themselves? They told Correspondent Scott Pelley that conscience, not cowardice, made them American deserters.

1. One division lost to casualties, one-half division lost to desertion
What does that leave the US with? About 7.5 usable divisions left? Not that much usable equipment left, though. Or so I've read.

But don't worry, * is said to be about to request another $100 BILLION Dollars :wow: for Iraq in a new "Supplemental" after the New Year. How much of that will Halliburton get to add to the $10+ Billion they've already been paid?

P.S. Is that a "War Theater/Conflict" Ribbon?
