They volunteered to fight for their country. But were they physically able to perform in the heat of battle?

An investigation is underway into allegations that local recruits were told to lie about their medical history.

The recruiters in question are now the subject of a United States Navy probe(riiight.).

The allegations of fraud and deception have also caught the attention of Cleveland's Investigative Reporter Carl Monday.

Local military recruiting scandal?

http://www.wkyc.com/weblog/carlmonday/

19-year old Matthew Lamond suffers from asthma, a heart murmur, and has a hole in his heart since birth. And to make matters worse, he's been diagnosed with a personality disorder and attention deficit.

Not exactly a picture of health.

So how did he successfully enlist in the U.S. Navy?

It's question we're trying to answer...and so is the Inspector General of the Navy(riiight.)...

1. The Army took my nephew 3 months ago
and he has severe hyperglycemia/pre-diabetic issues and extremely high blood pressure. They told him not to mention the blood sugar problems. They could not get a normal blood pressure from him after multiple attempts, so they took his medical records from the last three years and "averaged" his blood pressure readings! He has so far made it through all of his basic training. He comes home on leave this Thursday for 10 days and then he is off to Guantanamo Prison for a 12 month tour. They will take anyone. They just tell you to shut up about any medical issues. He is just a dumb 19 year old kid who would not listen to anyone. God help us. Sorry for the rant, but our family is still devastated at his decision to enlist and their decision to take him regardless.

2. I am so sorry for you!
People who have medical issues may very well be risking their lives by entereing the military, even if they never get sent overseas.

5. Thank you.
The problem is that these are just kids. My nephew was recruited his last three years of high school. We had no idea they were in his school until it was too late. He is very immature also. Nothing we could do until the recruiter showed up at the house to bring him for his physical. Sickening.

3. I know someone put out for being bi-polar.
Navy has usually been hard to get into. Or more than the army. That may be just in days gone by.
