PYEONGTAEK, South Korea — Charges have yet to be filed in the death of a woman whose husband is a U.S. Army officer in South Korea, U.S. military officials said Monday.
The body of Lea Gray, 27, was found May 7 in a mountain valley near Camp Carroll in Waegwan. The woman was the wife of Army Capt. Christopher Gray of the 25th Transportation Battalion. She was reported missing from the couple’s Camp George apartment in Daegu on April 20. Camp Carroll is about a half-hour drive north of Daegu.
Last week, officials said charges were being prepared and probably would be filed by May 16 or early this week. But on Monday, 8th Army spokesman Lt. Col. Brodrick J. Bailey said the case still is being investigated and it was uncertain when charges would be filed.
Army investigators have padlocked Gray’s apartment, a U.S. military official speaking on condition of anonymity told Stars and Stripes on Monday. Bailey said the U.S. military would not disclose whether Gray had become a suspect in the case or had been placed in confinement or under any other type of restriction.
"We are not going to divulge details of the case pending the preferral of charges," Bailey said Monday night.
