Senate pulls captain from 1-star list

The Senate on Wednesday held back the one-star nomination of the Navy captain in charge of the building the service’s new fleet of presidential helicopters.

The move was made the same day Capt. Donald Gaddis, program manager for presidential helicopters for Naval Air Systems Command, briefed Senate staffers on the program.

“There are questions that need to be resolved,” said David Pollock, a spokesman for the Senate Armed Services Committee.

Pollock confirmed the action against Gaddis but did not provide further details, including whether it has anything to do with his handling of the troubled helicopter program.

Gaddis was the program manager for the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet and EA-18G Growler prior to September 2007, when he took over the effort to modernize the presidential helicopter fleet.
