4 Hood soldiers killed in Afghanistan

FORT HOOD, Texas — Four Army soldiers from Fort Hood died last week in Afghanistan when an improvised explosive device hit their vehicle, the Department of Defense announced Monday.

Killed Friday in Chowkay Valley, Afghanistan, were Pfc. David J. Badie, 23, of Rockford, Ill.; Pvt. Jair De Jesus Garcia, 29, of Chatsworth, Calif.; Spc. William J. Mulvihill, 20, of Leavenworth, Kan.; and 2nd Lt. Michael R. Girdano, 23, of Pennsylvania. A city was not listed for Girdano.

Badie, Mulvihill and Girdano were assigned to the Special Troops Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division.

Garcia was assigned to the 6th Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division.
