my 152nd ltte-please critique before I send
As a vocal advocate for Veterans' issues,I was delighted to hear that Barack Obama chose Joe Biden as his running mate. With these men at the helm,we will have 2 of the biggest proponents for veterans' care in the nation.
Senator Obama reintroduced the Lane Evans Veterans Health and Benefits Improvement Act to improve the VA's planning process to avoid budget shortfalls in the future. He has been a leader in fighting homelessness among veterans. He authored the Sheltering All Veterans Everywhere Act (SAVE Act) to strengthen and expand federal homeless veteran programs. He introduced an amendment that became law providing food services to wounded veterans receiving physical therapy or rehabilitation services at military hospitals. Previously, they had to pay for their meals.

Senator Biden helped enact numerous measures to improve the delivery of health care services for our nation’s veterans, help those returning from Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) readjust to civilian life and assist family members who provide much needed love and support for our wounded warriors. He was successful in getting a provision attached to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2008 that is designed to prevent budget cuts to military medical facilities while the nation is at war. He cosponsored both the stand-alone Dignity for Wounded Warriors Act as well as the Dignified Treatment of Wounded Warriors amendment that was attached to the National Defense Authorization Act.He helped Congress enact several measures to help those with PTSD and TBI.

Together, these men will see that our veterans get the care they so desperately need.As the Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan rage on,our toll of wounded soldiers will do nothing but increase.Consider this when placing your vote in November.

2. lead from strength
You advocate two important ideas. Obama-Biden stand strongly for veterans care and their election will save lives. I'd open the letter asserting those ideas. I'm generally turned off by the opening "As a this or that..." because everyone's entitled to her his opinion whatever their experience. Besides, your vocal advocacy is obvious--you're writing this letter. I'd cite the OIE / OEF abbreviations only if referring to the operations later in the letter, which you do not. I'd also spell out PTSD and TBI.

Thank you for taking strong positions and best wishes that the editors will share your views in their pages.

Here's a story related to your advocacy: http://labloga.blogspot.com/2007/07/story-within-limits-of-my-post.html

Regards,
mvs

3. Thank you,Michael
I am viewed as a traitor and Un-American in my community because I don't sit back and smile nicely. This war destroyed my son and many of his friends. They are the walking dead..
I am fortunate that my right-wing editor loves printing my letters...they generate a lot of debate.I hope he prints this one, too.

4. I have been shocked at the way the Bush administration..
has addressed veteran issues. I guess since none were actually in the military (Bush's ANG service doesn't count really) they have no regards to veterans and the problems associated with battle wounds, both physical and mental. On this one issue alone I would make my vote for the Democrats. You have written about a need that is tops in many minds of voters. Good work!
