Pair sentenced for burglary at Mildenhall

European edition, Thursday, August 28, 2008

RAF MILDENHALL, England — An Air Force spouse and a British base employee were sentenced Friday for their roles in a burglary earlier this year.

Amy Maruna, 45, and Darren Hart, 37, pleaded guilty earlier this summer to stealing antique coins and a triple-barrel shotgun from David Toms before being sentenced last week at Ipswich Crown Court. Maruna was a parish coordinator at the Mildenhall chapel until earlier this year, while Hart teaches martial arts at Lakenheath.

Maruna was sentenced to eight months, which will be suspended for 21 months as long as no other offenses are committed in that time. She will also have to serve 200 hours of community service and pay court costs.

Hart was sentenced to 10 months in prison but his sentence will also be suspended for 21 months. He will have to serve 240 hours of community service and also pay court costs.

The judge cited the defendants’ lack of burglary convictions when handing down the sentences.
