Sigonella sailor sentenced for sex-related charges

A Sigonella, Sicily-based sailor was sentenced Thursday to nine months in prison after being convicted on sex-related charges including solicitation of a minor and child pornography, according to Navy officials.

As part of a plea agreement, Petty Officer 1st Class Edward M. Jewett, 38, was convicted of two specifications of attempted indecent language with a minor and attempted solicitation of a minor and one specification of possession of child pornography, according to information provided by officials.

In addition to confinement, the military judge sentenced Jewett to forfeitures of two-thirds of pay for nine months, reduction to E-1, and a bad-conduct discharge.

He is assigned to U.S. Naval Facilities Engineering Command Europe and Southwest Asia, Detachment Sigonella.

Jewett had been charged with attempted aggravated sexual assault of a child, attempted sodomy of a child, indecent language, two counts of attempted indecent language with a child, two counts of attempted online solicitation of a child and four counts of receipt, possession, transportation or distribution of child pornography.
