2009 funding approval expected by Oct. 1

The Army sent a priority message to commands, resources managers, budget officers, finance and accounting officers, disbursing officers and National Guard adjutants general that they should expect to receive funding authority for fiscal 2009 by Oct. 1.

The worldwide message, ALARACT 236/2008, notes that Congress has passed a bill which contains Army appropriations for the budget year that begins Wednesday.

“It is expected that President Bush will sign this bill by close of business Sept. 30,” according to the message. “Therefore the Defense Department will be operating under its appropriations acts for the start of fiscal 2009.”

A continuing resolution passed for non-Defense Department agencies, also is expected to be signed by the president, according to the Pentagon message.
