The government is helping some military families who have been caught up in the housing crisis sweeping America.

A change to the Joint Federal Travel Regulations now allows the government to pay local moving costs for members of the military living in rented homes that go into foreclosure.

However, not everyone affected by the crisis is eligible for this assistance.

The paid move is only for renters "who through no fault of their own, have been forced to move because landlords failed to keep up payments on residences that the members and their families have leased or rented," according to a Navy administrative message explaining the new rule to servicemembers.

The change is geared toward members relocating to areas near their duty stations. Servicemembers have to provide their local housing office a copy of the landlord’s foreclosure notice.
