ANNAPOLIS, Md. — State officials released a study Friday to help guide businesses owned by women and minorities to win contracts related to military base realignment in Maryland.

The study surveyed procurement activity from 2002 to 2007 at five Maryland military installations and federal agencies involved with defense-related spending.

Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown, leading Maryland’s state effort to prepare for tens of thousands of new jobs from base realignment, said the study aimed to identify long-term opportunities with defense contracting jobs.

“We believe that it’s going to be an important tool to work with minority and small business and women-owned businesses,” Brown said at the annual conference of the Maryland Legislative Black Caucus.

The study includes procurement data from Fort Monmouth in New Jersey, where operations will relocate to Maryland’s Aberdeen Proving Ground. It also includes information from the Defense Information Systems Agency, where operations are moving from Virginia to Fort Meade.
