Contradictions from suspect in Fort Dix case
Contradictions from suspect in Fort Dix case

CAMDEN, N.J. — A man accused of planning to kill soldiers on Fort Dix was caught on an informant’s secret recordings making important and contradictory statements less than a month apart.

Last week, a jury in the case heard from the informant, Besnik Bakalli, that Dritan Duka told him on March 10, 2007, that the group should attack soldiers in the United States.

Monday, defense lawyers showed jurors a transcript of a second conversation from April 7, 2007, in which Duka told Bakalli: “We are good the way we are. We are not going to kill anyone. Even if we kill anyone, you can’t run away. They will catch you right away.”

The conflicting claims lie at the heart of the domestic terrorism case, which could go to the jury sometime next week.

It will be up to the jurors to sort out whether the men who talked about wanting to kill soldiers meant it and whether they had a plan to do it.
