JACKSONVILLE, N.C. — Members of the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit are returning to sea, following more than two weeks of training in Kuwait.

The Camp Lejeune, N.C.-based MEU wrapped up sustainment training Friday, unit officials said in a release.

Training operations in the desert included aviation, artillery, armored vehicle and weapons training, where Marines fired almost every weapon in the MEU’s inventory, according to the release. Marines and sailors also conducted medical training and Humvee egress training.

“It’s good to get out here and really flex our muscles a bit,” said Lt. Col. Wes Capdepon, the MEU’s executive officer. “The facilities and ranges here at Camp Buehring are an excellent venue for MEU Marines to refresh and sharpen those combat skills they work so hard to perfect.”

Though most of the 26th MEU will return to the ships of the Norfolk, Va.-based Iwo Jima Expeditionary Strike Group, some elements will continue to train in Kuwait.
