The Navy chaplain charged with several sex-related offenses will go to a general court-martial, according to a spokesman at Naval Air Forces-Atlantic.
Lt. Shane R. Dillman, the former chaplain for the aircraft carrier Carl Vinson, faces fives charges with several specifications of fraternization, sexual assault, adultery and conduct unbecoming an officer, according to a Jan. 9 charge sheet.
Rear Adm. Richard O’ Hanlon, commander of Naval Air Forces Atlantic, signed the order March 11 accepting the recommendation of the investigating officer to proceed to court-martial, said Mike Maus, an AirLant spokesman.
A date for the court-martial has not been set.
Testimony during Dillman’s Article 32 hearing in July alleged a pattern of conduct and contact involving young female sailors. Witnesses said Dillman told stories about being involved in covert combat operations. In an unsworn statement in the courtroom, he claimed to be suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, deafness in his right ear and dysfunction in his central nervous system.
