Flyover to provide different sort of pod-cast

Fans at the annual football game pitting the University of Florida against rival Florida State University will get a special treat before the game, in addition to all those Thanksgiving leftovers.

As F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jets from Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., fly over the University of Florida’s Gainesville stadium before the game, the stadium’s JumboTron screens will show what the pilots are seeing through their aircraft’s targeting pods.

“They are going to link the footage from the Sniper pod onboard ... to the JumboTron on approach so the audience can effectively see what the pilot is seeing,” said Heather Kelly, a spokeswoman for Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control, which manufactures the pods.

“We are thrilled that an audience that large will get to see first-hand the technology being used to support the men and women in theater right now,” she said.

The Sniper advanced targeting pods are used on the F-15E, F-16 and A-10. They also are being integrated onto the B-1.
