VetVoice Blogger Heads to Iraq
by: Brandon Friedman
Sun Nov 25, 2007 at 00:07:27 AM EST

I just wanted to let everyone know that one of our own, war-junkie, is leaving tomorrow for Iraq--where he'll be in Baghdad for the next 15 months. This will be his fifth combat deployment since 9/11.

war-junkie has let me know that he'll continue to post here when he has the time--and that he'll do his best to loop us in to what's going on in his part of the city. With the pace of operations, though, I won't hold him to it.

As with the other VetVoice bloggers currently deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan, he and his family will be in our thoughts and prayers.

1. good grief... FIVE combat deployments since 9/11?!? And this one for 15 months???
That is OBSCENE.

That is absolutely NOT RIGHT, no way to treat our soldiers, and completely criminal. No one should be subjected to this!

The repukes in congress intone "We support our troops".... ?!? Yeah - suuure you do. :eyes:

Like THIS is supporting them?!?

:grr:

2. I know, unreal. It burned me, too, when I read this will be his 5th, for
15 months. Does anyone wonder why soldiers are going AWOL at records rates, or committing suicide? :(

4. While I admire him for his service, I am trying to figure out why
he is ranting about getting sent overseas again when he could have just as easily gotten out.
You only get stop-lossed while your unit has deployment orders, not for six years straight, that would require a real re-enlistment, maybe even two.
