Facing closure, Darmstadt posts Web site for soldiers
Facing closure, Darmstadt posts Web site for soldiers
By Matt Millham, Stars and Stripes
European edition, Tuesday, December 4, 2007

Darmstadt, one of the garrisons on the chopping block as part of the U.S. Army’s reshuffling in Europe, has a new Web site dedicated to its closing.

Brought online Friday, the site provides information for soldiers and civilians affected by the garrison’s inactivation, which is scheduled to happen before the end of September 2008.

The site, which can be accessed through the Darmstadt garrison’s main Web site, is “an even more accommodating, user-friendly garrison transformation Web site,” Lt. Col. David Astin, the garrison commander, said at a town hall meeting Wednesday.

It can also be found at www.darmstadt.army.mil/closure.html .

Projected closure dates for each of the garrison’s services, facilities and activities; links to services available at nearby U.S. Army garrisons; information about moving; and links to news releases announcing the inactivation or relocation of various Darmstadt units are among the site’s features.

It also has updated opening hours for on-post services and links to briefings for civilian employees whose jobs are disappearing with the garrison.
