WHARTON, N.J. — It takes a village to build a home, and that’s exactly what happened in Wharton.

The Morris County community came together to build a new house for Jim Benoit, a gravely wounded Iraq war veteran, and his wife, Pam.

It took 15 months, but the work is finished, and only a few minor details remain before they can move in, something that’s expected to happen within a few weeks.

Benoit was grievously wounded when his Humvee was ripped apart by an improvised explosive device. His heart stopped four times, and an Army chaplain told members of his unit he died.

He didn’t, however. But now he faces a lengthy rehabilitation.
