4. Damn! I miss all the fun.

I will not stand to have my faith in ancient Vulcan mysticism mocked! I demand that vendors stop selling Spock ears at Star Trek conventions! Plastic spock ears are immature and childish and mock something I hold very sacred and I'm shocked! Shocked I tell you! I can't believe any important serious Star Trek convention would allow themselves to be degraded with cheap Chinese made Spock ears. What would Surak do?

Shouldn't he be in an arena fighting a lion or something?

Damn thread got locked before I could post my H.L. Mencken quote, so I'll just put it here for you heathens:

One of the most irrational of all the conventions of modern society is the one to the effect that religious opinions should be respected...

(This) convention protects them, and so they proceed with their blather unwhipped and almost unmolested, to the great damage of common sense and common decency.

That they should have this immunity is an outrage. There is nothing in religious ideas, as a class, to lift them above other ideas.

On the contrary, they are always dubious and often quite silly.

Nor is there any visible intellectual dignity in theologians. Few of them know anything that is worth knowing, and not many of them are even honest.

Methinks we will be hearing from him again.

Oh well, life was boring without CL and Stunster, maybe this will liven it up a bit.

And it's usually Christians that get offended about non-theists existing. You'd think as Christians they would get offended about poverty and inequality.

15. No kidding.
Although, most of them on DU do seem to have their priorities in order.
The martyrs are much louder though.

I'd like to hear how they'd take it if a candidate for president told them that he doesn't consider them patriotic or even citizens.

You are right about here at DU, they are pretty cool about their religious beliefs. I seem to attract those that aren't cool about it.

DU is childish and insensitive! Maybe DU should have an ad for theist merchandise to mollify the theists! :puke:

20. Ha! What a coincidence!
While I was reading about the "persecution" and "martyrdom" in that thread, the radio played the PERFECT song.

A really hot Fifties arrangement of Nina Simone singing...

Cry Me A River

If I were a Woo-Woo, I'd post 50,000 words on the awesome Cosmic Significance of that. Or something.

(I'm listening to a local college station with a very bizarre playlist. Bluegrass on Sunday morning. Blues and rockabilly later. Weird European pop music. All over the map. I love it!)

And I thought I was fortunate to have had his sweat fall on me while at a Whitesnake concert.

Yngwie is still my favorite, but Steven Vai is right up there.

25. Not much to tell...
I was just harassing you.

Some years ago, I had a roommate and good friend who was a musician. His sister and brother-in-law did some backup singing with Frank Zappa, when Steve Vai was playing with him. So we got to hang around occasionally.

Heh! Damn, that WAS a long time ago. The first time I met Steve Vai, it was at some hole-in-the-wall club in West L.A. A lot of us were complaining about the unknown opening act. We decided he was an untalented, pretty-boy Top 40 hackster. That was Richard Marx, before he got famous (unfortunately, IMO).

No, Zappa was never around when I was, dammit. My roommate did meet him several times.

I guess we're off-topic...

But to get back on, take a look at James Randi's site this week. Lots of homeopathic nuttiness!
