Two Words To The "We Must Save Xmas!" Freaks
FUCK OFF

Ok, here's some more words:

Why should I, as an atheist (Jew by culture), be FORCED to be subjected to Merry Fucking Xmas everywhere? Fucking sanctimonious douchebags. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! These people are so fucking stupid and selfish.

2. Here's what I don't get....
I read an article in the paper about how some people are upset at all the political correctness being pushed on them *now*. Things like Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas, etc. BUT I know that this has gone on for years and years. I clearly remember being asked to be PC about the holidays at work more than ten years ago. This isn't sudden.

Do you think it's because the fundie crowd is feeling cocky now and they want another reason to squawk? Or is it because people (businesses) are becoming more aware of other faiths/non-faiths in the workplace?

3. I think you made a good point
about the fundies feeling cocky now about the so-called mandate allows them to push their agenda without much resistance.

After all if you complain about Christian philosophy you must be an atheist and that is bad.
<sarcasm>

I am hoping these people keep pushing their agenda so that more normal people can see the proof of their ridiculous mindset and they will be outed as the true extremists they are.

4. That's What Inspired the Thread, These Freaks Demanding "Merry Xmas"
Edited on Tue Dec-14-04 06:51 PM by Beetwasher
MUST be used instead of Happy Holidays. It's all over the place on the news. I don't even watch news on TV, but I can't tell you how many news lead up ads I've seen pitching this story to be covered. And now I see it in the press. These people really are psychologically disturbed and it's widespread. We're truly witnessing the sort of psychological disease that overtook much of the German population in the prelude to the Nazi era. It's a mass trance-state, acting out of a group fantasy. Much of the country is literally in this trance state and it's frightening.

We're also witnessing a mass, organized propoganda push that includes this movement and fuels the fantasy. That story that ran the other day about the supposed conversion of a well-known atheist? Another piece of propoganda that I'm sure was pushed by the "liberal media". It was total bullshit since the guy didn't convert, but that didn't stop the screaming headline and the believers from swallowing it and crowing about it.

5. More to the point
The "believers" have been "pushing" their beliefs on people - often rather forcefully - for thousands of years.

8. I think the fundies are getting overly zealous and with 9/11 happening
all this thoughts of the last chapter/book in the Bible "Revelations", certain fundies are starting to brace themselves for the "end of times" and are trying to recruit as much as possible.

I'm sick of people whining about "political correctness". What do they want us to revert to? Calling African-Americans the N word?? Calling gay & lesbians the F word?? I mean, it's THERE for a REASON. People are so moronic.

10. Interesting -- hadn't thought about it, but you're right to a degree.

The people I hear gripe about 'PC' so much usually are sanctimonious RW Christians. One of the biggest pissers and moaners about 'political correctness' I deal with is a sanctimonious fraud of a Christian who also (I'm sure nobody would be surprised to hear) manages to make the words 'Democrat' and 'liberal' sound like 'pile of dog shit.'

The very people who should be compelled by their religion to treat everybody well whine the most about being expected to treat everybody well. Most of the ones I know who do it are, I amend, Republicans. The only liberal Christians I ever seem to have a problem with are here, and I've finally concluded it's the format, not me. That and liberal Christians have a hell of a lot to be scared about, right now (pun intended).

13. What I don't get is how they get away with claiming being inclusive is
"pushing" something on them. Happy Holidays is a phrase that lets anyone apply it to their particular celebration. It acknowledges that their are a variety of celebrations that are held at this season, and avoids making the assumption that any one is the "approved" holiday.

Why should I tell everyone Merry Christmas when I am not Christian. How do I know the person I'm addressing isn't Jewish, or Hindu, or Pagan or any number of other beliefs. And sorry (not) to "christians" who claim that Jesus is "the reason for the season", but your boy wasn't even born in the winter, and various pagans had the holiday season first.

Once again, the hard core rw "christians" claim to be persecuted simply because they have not (yet) been declared the official state religion.

Our local paper had a letter to the editor today by some douchbag about how the ACLU etc is infringing on his religous freedom, b.s b.s. b.s. And America's heritage is being torn apart, blah, blah, blah.
:puke:

If any of these pricks says anything like this to me, I'm going to just say "Happy Festivus!"

http://www.festivus.8k.com/

Or maybe "Merry Winter Solstace".

7. And where I am it's let's celebrate jesus' birthday!
The truth is that instead of being scared by the natural light back into their crevices, which, by the way I think they know they belong, the other idiot in chief made them suddenly feel like it's their national duty to crawl around and spread their stuff.

11. I always just clue such people in on the non-Christian origins
of the holiday they love so much. It shuts them up a little.

14. The temptation to pull all that stuff into one insert ...
and to hand it out, 'here's your (stupid) sign!' style, is very strong. Since most Christian holidays are co-opted pagan holidays anyway, especially.

When I was shaking off twenty years of religious indoctrination, I used to get a charge out of telling people I was Zoroastrian. Some historians believe Christianity was largely based on the practices of Zoroastrianism, including attitudes toward death, scriptures, the 'word of (the) god' and all. It's interesting, to say the least, and apparently influenced many religions that came out of Mesopotamia, including Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

http://www.avesta.org/zfaq.html

I always added, when I told them I was Zoroastrian, 'I like to go back to the real source.'

Of course, I wasn't anything at that point, and am even less now of what I wasn't at that point, but I like sending the superficially religious off on wild historical goose chases. It's better than just telling them my imaginary friends are nicer than theirs.

15. It's petty and small
I used to say Happy New Year to people since I don't celebrate any of the winter holidays, but now I say "Happy Holidays!" and I just keep my fingers crossed that some sanctimonious prick challenges me on it. I really need a chance to go off on somebody these days!

It's their choice.

18. Let's just take the damn holiday ourselves: Payback's a Bitch.
Okay, Xtians stole the holiday from various other sects; poor Mithras. Let's steal it. Make it totally secular, elevate Snowmen and Eggnog (with alcohol) to the level of secular sacraments, make gift giving a competitive sport, spend two weeks in a drunken, overfed stupor...

And when fundies get all bent out of shape, remind them that THEY stole the holiday in the first place and give them the new Christmas slogan: Payback's a bitch.

19. They're a bunch of religious bullies
As an atheist I don't begrudge Christians their Christmas. I kind of enjoy the holiday atmosphere and the music on the radio. However, they have no right to force my government to celebrate it as a Christian religious holiday, and when they push, we must all speak out and push back.

We have our rights, too, and the public must be presented with our objections. We must vocally support those public officials who take the heat from the RW wackos for doing the right thing.
