Atheist Alliance Convention: Mar 25-27 Los Angeles CA |
|
The AAI convention is coming to a Los Angeles near you! I'm on the Board of Directors for AAI, so this is not meant to be commercial, but a notice of an upcoming event. Mods, if this is, please let me know what I've said wrong.
The Crowne Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles will be the host this year, for a Stars of Freethought convention. This is a homecoming of sorts, since we had our first convention in LA in 1995.
So far the guest list includes: Penn & Teller • At Sunday Brunch, Penn & Teller will accept the Richard Dawkins award for outstanding work in the cause of atheism
Michael Newdow • One year after his eloquent Supreme court argument
Andrew Bradley • creator of the website Betty Bowers, America’s Best Christian (www.bettybowers.com)
Dr. Bruce Flamm • quoted in Time Magazine, as the man whose persistent inquiry proved the Korean-Columbia fertility study to be fatally flawed
And More! Featuring these stars of freethought!
Come out and play with us! The hotel is convenient to LAX and has a shuttle, and the rates cannot be beat for an event of this quality.
more information is available at www.atheistalliance.org

I may have to drive up for that.
Although I was disappointed to learn the P&T are Cato Institute libertarian types.

3. Libertarians aren't necessarily horrid. |
|
I'm glad they have liberal social values, and it's unlikely that the hard-core economic libs are ever going to get their way. We all remember too well people dying on the streets when the mental institutions were closed under Reagan.
Atheist doesn't necessarily mean liberal economically.
And in a way, this was a political thing... we've had a hell of a time getting the Objectivist version of atheists interested in the politics. The assault on 1st amendment rights affects us all, regardless of economics.

4. I would like to insist that |
|
mentally ill people, for most screwed up, directly or indirectly by religion, are STILL dying on the streets. I have examples of that constantly. State Hospitals' dominant policy is to "stabilize" people and kick them out to their so-called "communities" (who have not the slightest idea or $$ to do something). LA... I won't make it but I'd like to. Next time, why don't you guys pick Sheridan, WY??

5. I know they're still dying, FS. |

Believe me, I know. (As she puts away today's review files and pretends she can go to bed normally....)
Last year we DID hold it in Colorado Springs. This year, March.... too early to not have too much snow in the Rockies. (Last year, we got snowed upon, after a week of 70s. Go figure. Gotta love the Rockies.)
