It is an article by the Guardian UK

Since some of us don't go over there that often, I figured I would post it here.

One question I thought might be interesting is, Can we legally stop Bush from spending "our" tax dollars on faith-based initiatives and further blurring separation of church and state. I will go digging online and see if any prominent Separation Groups are gearing up to fight him legally regarding his blatant attempt to shove his religious crap down the throats of the unsuspecting.

1. We can't even get In God We trust off the money
Look what happened when we tried to correct the pledge. Yes we have to try. But we also have to be aware of the environment out there. It needs to change and its not going to just happen.

2. I know we have failed in the past
but this administration has become even more stifling than in the last 3 and 1/2 years.
Maybe watching the Dem's fighting the repukes in the House today on CSPAN has made me aware these nut-jobs will stop at nothing.
I am preaching to the choir here and I realize that. I can't understand how independent voters and libertarians can sit idly by and watch as we become a theocracy....
just ranting....:eyes:

3. The question becomes one of what exactly can we do
We have to assess the factors. Understand the positions. And strike where our limited force can do the most good. We cannot win in a toe to toe battle. We are outnumbered. They hold the high ground. And we are not even very organised.

We need to figure out how to change some of these parameters. We need allies. We need to change our image. But most of all we need to act.

4. Support the ACLU and FFRF
(Freedom from Religion Foundation - http://www.ffrf.org)

Both are equipped to take legal action in defense of non-believers. That's will have to be our battlefield. As long as we have the First Amendment, we have a chance.

6. Oh, I agree.
But as you note, it's going to be very difficult to make that happen in today's ultra-religious climate. Little by little. In the meantime, the legal option is very important.

10. You are welcome. FFRF is a great organization.
If you join you get their newsletter, which is more of a newspaper in size. It features a "Black Collar Crime" section which runs down all the latest criminal acts of Christian leaders, clergy, and whatnot. So much for religion being necessary for morality. :)

8. There is, and there will be, I think, only one way:
Popular uprising. It is bound to happen, sooner or later. After that, the reactionaries will crawl back into their hole and loose their arrogance. Period.

9. That is the way history has done it
I like to think that in time our knowledge will allow us to see such coming troubles and instead of letting cycles of violence correct the imbalances learn to adjust the system ourselves.
