Note: This post intends no insult toward any truly faithful Catholic (I actually know several) who may read this.

For anyone interested in the upcoming papal election...

I just posted the story about the Pope being rushed to the hospital on my blog (http://ascrivenerslament.blogspot.com/).

Il Papa has been ill for over a year now.

Several months ago, I started posting "It's Time To Run For Pope Again" entries.

This one is the most comprehensive and has the best links to the papal election process and the top candidates:
http://ascrivenerslament.blogspot.com/2004/06/its-time-to-run-for-pope-again.html

I find the papal election process fascinating!

It's a bunch of ambitious cardinals electing a figurehead, who's then supposed to be regarded as having been chosen by the God of Abraham.

On edit: Gulp! Folks in GD are already warning against speaking ill of the seriously ill Pope.

1. Well, I find it distasteful to speak ill of the moribund
so I won't. The rest of you can do what you like, since we're all free.

However, I see nothing wrong in a bit of trackside speculation. I heard the front-runner was the ultra-right cardinal who has basically been running the place for the past few years, but I forget his name .

On the subject of JP2, I stumbled across footage of his viasit to his home country Poland in the 1980s the other day, when the country was communist, and his speech was impressive - pro workers, pro Solidarity, all that. So he has done a little good. Shame about the lunacy of the past decade.

2. What I would say
would probably cause this group to be instantly shut down. So I won't.

4. Oh boy, a new Pope - I can't wait
Maybe the new one will let that little girl that is allergic to wheat take an alternative communion wafer. It's too bad she'll have to burn in hell for eternity because god gave her a wheat allergy.

5. I doubt it.
The top contenders are even more conservative than the current pontiff.
