We should be tolerant, but we should have limits |
|
I have no problem with someone having their own religion, but when their religion calls for them to be bigoted or discriminatory, tolerance should end. Your religion says you shouldn't study with people of another race? Fine, get your mom to homeschool you. Your religion says you shouldn't interact with gays and lesbians? Fine, go move somewhere you won't have to deal with them (yeah right :eyes:). Your religion says you can't hear free thought ideas? Fine, insulate yourself from free thought as much as you can, but don't tell ME what I can and can't see on PBS.
Live and let live, I say, but if your religion requires prejudice, it's YOUR responsibility to find a way to fit into our pluralistic society or separate yourself from it. If you attempt to change our society to suit your bigotry, be prepared for a fight. If you want the rest of us to indulge your bigoted views, well, be prepared to find out just how many of us think your religion is BULLSHIT.
