1. There is a phrase in the DU rules |
|
Edited on Thu May-15-08 01:11 PM by cosmik debris
That has an application to politics:
"If you are easily offended by discussions about religious beliefs,...do not participate..."

2. See, I am NOT going crazy.... |
|
from the article:
snip> "A lot has been made about how Obama hasn’t done as well with Catholics compared to Clinton. But let’s remember one thing: Obama has a story to tell about how Jesus came into his life. You can bet we will be hearing more details about it on the stump in the fall. (if Obama is the nominee)"
Weird.....

4. Obama is going to throw us atheists/agnostics |
|
under the bus to pimp out his religious bona fides and appeal the religious right lunatics. I wonder how many of us are going to work really hard for him if he gets the nomination? I know I won't.

5. He supports the separation of state and church |

So does Senator Clinton. All politicians throw us under the bus, nothing new there.

6. I will work like "hell" for him. |

There will be no "pro-atheist" candidate in my foreseeable future, so I'll settle for SINKING THE DLC.
Do some research on Clinton's "Prayer Group" before you claim that Obama's religion makes him a "religious right lunatic".

7. Sinking the DLC is a worthy goal. |
|
To attempt a restoration of what the Democratic Party should stand for, not what the Clintons have turned it into. But Obama has a lot of corporate backing too, so it's not that clear yet how much of a change he'll be.
But I like his personality so much more, and he's a motivating speaker and seems to have potential as leader. I'll overlook the religious pandering for now. Like you say, it's not like there's another less religious option. But if he goes over the line with his evangelism, I'll be back to complain.
The fringe candidates like Nader and Gravel run secular campaigns, but this time I think I'll go mainstream.

9. This really doesn't bother me that much... |
|
unless Obama is wanting his religion to become law. I haven't seen that with him or even Hillary for that matter. Unlike bush and the rest of his worshiping nutjobs.
Even as much as I think religion is a fiction of fantasy, I don't fault anyone for believing it. That's their business and IMO, they should just keep it to themselves. Keep it out of schools and keep it out of government.
Otherwise, I could care less if they worship Jesus' left butt cheek.

10. Obama is no Huckelnuts or Mittens... |
|
His family is rather diverse and I find that to be a good thing. When he comes to making a decision regarding minorities, he will actually stop and think "Would I want to subject my relatives who are (whatever) to this kind of treatment?"
With a religious father and an Atheist mother, I do not see Obama pandering to the religious thugs or keeping us down. I hope that he does put them in their place and kicks them off the Hill.
"they should just keep it to themselves. Keep it out of schools and keep it out of government." If only it was that easy cynatnite.
I am ready for religions to go the way of the dinosaurs..
