Edited on Sat Dec-18-04 03:26 AM by Faye
i never knew about the whole Red Sox thing -

so is this how it went? someone had called into a radio station and said something like 'the day John Kerry wins the Presidency is the day the Red Sox win the world series' ?

i just never knew much about that, i don't know why :(

1. I think
it was a heckler at one of his rallies or something like that.

2. I thought
It was someone on Chimp's campaign. Because Kerry rubbed it in when it happen. Or that's what I thought.

3. oh, the dark days
October, the primaries. The Boston Globe was just brutal, we couldn't get a speck of good press. I don't remember if it was a radio caller or a host, but it was painful. I can't believe we came through all of that, to the highs of the Series and the Packer game, to this.

4. What is up with the Boston Globe?
I have read a lot about the love-hate relationship with Kerry.

5. He's not Uncle Teddy?
Don't know, but he got no hometown boy favoritism from them at all. Except for the primary endorsement, which we all about fell off our chairs over. Maybe because he's not perfect? Meaning he doesn't line up with the left on every issue, from what I can tell.

6. The Globe and Kerry just never saw eye-to-eye
It's complicated. He's a pretty unique figure in recent MA political history. There is a lot of the good government, straight arrow about him and his politics. The Globe is always looking for scandals. And there's always been this weird dissonance there. Just chalk it up to oil and water.

That NH endorsement was a beautiful thing. Here it is:
http://www.boston.com/news/globe/editorial_opinion/editorials/articles/2004/01/22/kerry_in_new_hampshire/

The Globe was actually kind of sweet about it, which shocked the hell out of me. (I neer thought I'd see the day. Maybe the editorial folks were out drinking or something and wrote it from the bar. Who knows, but it's the nicest thing they ever wrote about Kerry.)
