Some days I like Maureen Dowd; this is not one of them
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/11/21/opinion/21dowd.html

She has a slight anti-Kerry bias, though not as bad as I've seen in other ABBers.

Her op/ed in the NYT today annoyed me for a couple of reasons:

This quote:
"Democrats were furious to learn last week that Mr. Kerry had squirreled away $15 million in primary donations that he could have spent turning out the vote in Florida and Ohio. Once more trying to have it both ways, Mr. Kerry wanted a nest egg in case of a recount or legal challenges - not exactly the killer mentality that Democrats need."

First of all, I'm not sure this is even correct. It was well-known that Kerry was putting together a recount fund, and that was separate from $15 million. Also, campaign people posting here said that Kerry fully intended to give that money to Dem candidates for 2005 and 2006. In addition, it is said Al Gore had money still in the kitty at this point too, and it's premature to go after the candidate until all the bills have come in. Last, the woman who was making the biggest stink about the money was Gore's campaign manager, who has her own issues it seems.

Not to mention that after 2000, why WOULDN'T he have a legal fund. Why would that be "trying to have it both ways." Dems with RNC talking points make my teeth itch. You could just as easily say he's playing smart. (Smart enough to be in stealth mode right now, for instance.)

Maybe I'm wrong, but I wonder at journalists who seem to come at the subject of John Kerry already disliking them.

1. I don't like her
She's a malcontent. Nothing makes her happy. I guess this gives her an air of objectivity but it just strikes me as dour.

2. I know what you mean
When Kerry starting using Clinton's staff and listening to some of Clinton's advice, she called it, oh how did she put it, sort of immasculating. Meanwhile we were all happy that he was making adjustments to win. It was one of the things that made him different from Gore.

3. Dowd is retarded
That is the worst thing about journalists nowadays, they do not research their material and report what they think to be the truth, thus the reporting is incorrect and distorted. Does Dowd have an email address? If we have one for her, we should slam her on this!

6. Dowd has been a Kerry-basher all along. I can't stand her for that reason.
She's very smug, judgemental, and cynical. Not a good combination in someone who's supposed to be on our side. I actually think Dems who ragged on Kerry throughout the campaign might have done him just as much damage if not more than Repug thugs. Dowd's snarkiness serves no purpose, even when she skewers * it's not substantive writing.
