Heard on the news this morning - Kerry cancelled his events for a couple of days
to allow the story to die.

He did what needed to be done. If Democrats cant use that and do what is necessary, they can only blame themselves for their inability to come back.

Damn these squirmish Democrats and ABC already claiming that it hurts his 08 chances (not that some will not use that against him - We know they will).

1. Bush/Kerry on the front page of AOL this morning
I referenced the poll in the poll thread.

So it's now hanging on for another news cycle.

2. Of course it will - The only way to make that die is to have Kerry front and
center attack the WH and the GOP. Let him say that the only thing he is guilty of is a bad delivery of jokes and that he respect the troops and think that they are smart, then go on something else.

Of course, I dont expect the Democrats to do that. It would be smart!!!

3. .This whole thing,,,,
... is TOO PAINFUL for words... as for 08 I read/heard somewhere, forgot where, that it completely destroys his chances. Not that it is necessarily true, but still... And if, God forbid, we do not win big, and I mean BIG, next week, can you imagine the comments?

9. 08, chances. That is wishful thinking on some peoples parts.
Why should a misquote and flub ruin anyones chances. As Tay Tay says, they can bit me. Some people want he out of the race before it even begins. I heard that mentioned too- on CNN. For some reason, CNN was completely negative on Kerry yesterday.
This will die a quick death. It is actually much ado about nothing. To think that any elected official would criticize our troops is absolutely nuts.

4. Kerry stood up to them
with courage, but how sad that a leading Dem is forced to cancel campaigning for Democrats because of RW hysteria! It's shameful!

I hate to say it, but you also have to recognize the realities on the ground. The purpose of GOTV rallies to to boost the vote for the local candidate. If the Senator goes to an event, he will attract media that doesn't want to talk about the issues, they just want to talk about the misquote. Like it or not, this won't help the GOTV effort.

The Senator knows this and is taking himself out of local races in an effort to not be a distraction to local candidates and put them on the spot on a nonissue for them. (Why should Bob Casey have to deal with this? Sad, but true.) It is what has to happen. Kerry can talk about Iraq from a national position and use his voice to carry that argument without local candidates having to worry about the media hijacking their rallies to talk about this nonissue.

Sometimes you bite the bullet and take one for the team.

7. Now is not the time - Kerry did the right thing.
However, I would have liked more dems use that to attack Bush the way Carville and others did. Hiding and keeping silent as Reid and Schumer are will not help.

8. Many have, but the candidates on the ballot, unless they are
asked should stay out of it. It's now being sold as a continuation of the bitter campaign of '04. That's actually better, because it is not being tied to '06. Kerry talking about Iraq is a good thing.

A dispatch from reality, btw -- not ONE WORD in my newspaper. They actually had meaty news items, like the billions of dollars to conquer the IEDs in Iraq that have failed to quell the violence. I still need to read about what happened in Sadr City found in the middle of the paper. So the world is still turning, and not everything is about this.

And, come on -- the Allen scuffle was in the front of the local section in our paper; more bizarre bad news about the Allen campaign.
