Casey defends Kerry in Allentown stop
U.S. Senate candidate Bob Casey Jr. today defended Sen. John Kerry over a botched joke that has prompted Republicans from President Bush down -- and some Democrats -- to demand an apology.

Kerry was to campaign for Casey in Pennsylvania today, but canceled the visit amid a continuing storm over whether Kerry was aiming his barb at President Bush, as Kerry contends, or at U.S. troops in Iraq, as Bush contends.

• Polls show Casey still holding lead over Santorum in Senate race
"John Kerry is not only a great leader for the Democratic party and a great U.S. senator, but he's a patriot," Casey said after a morning political rally in Allentown. "He said he botched a joke and I think that is the beginning and the end of it. He was talking about the president and I think he has every right to criticize this president."

I also read that Obey came out swinging for Kerry.

2. Yeah, but they should never forgive McCain
who sold out the Constitution of this country by voting to get rid of habeas corpus and to allow torture.

John McCain is a moral coward. I will never forgive him for that or for the shiv he just put in an erstwile friends' back. He is pond scum to me now.

3. What's up with
Clark?

"In such a forbidding public dialogue, is it any wonder that John Kerry's blunder is being used to distract us?"

"He screwed up"

4. Well, he is not wrong. He screwed up and it is being exploited.
As long as he does not ask for an apology or does not say he insulted the troops or something like that, I do not think he is necessarily wrong. Kerry said more or less the same thing.

5. Thanks Mass, I needed this. It is good to know some of those
running for election do the honorable thing and stand by him.

10. I am so glad that Casey and Ford are responding in this way!
It must have been ackward for both of them to cancel with Kerry.

Don't you just want to give Kerry a hug right now?
You know he needs one.

11. WI Rep. Obey has Kerry's back?
That's great news. He's a good progressive Dem who stumped with JK here in '04. Now I have to go and find more about that. I wonder if Feingold said anything yet.
