1. That's why it hurts so much
what they are trying to do to Kerry.

He does so much, and this is the thanks he gets.

2. isn't it just amazing?
All this work he's done, over DECADES, for veterans. All the work he's done --the HEROIC work he's done- for this election, for so many candidates.
And this is what gets people's attention. . As JK said, "SHAME on them. SHAME on them." And shame on everyone who abets these cretins, or who in any way buys into this s___

3. Keep your eyes out for supportive statements from Democrats.
I don't have names, and I don't know what the content will be, but just keep an eye out over the next few days. This is starting to turn around. I think many Democrats are starting to feel ashamed of themselves for screaming in terror and cowering in holes.

4. That is a very poignant story!
It is truly sad that the RW would distort a statement to create the impression that the troops were being insulted. The soulless bastards didn't care that they would end up hurting and insulting the troops.

5. My favorite senator
This is my first post to absolutely anything. I have been reading the John Kerry group posts for about a year and feel like I know some of you. My husband and I are absolutely heartbroken over this "joke" flap and what it is doing to Kerry. We will support him as long as he is in politics. Please tell me this will go away and he can run for president. I don't think I can stand it if he doesn't.

7. Yay, another Kerry fan! Welcome to DU, oklablue.
I too will support Senator Kerry through thick and thin. It's amazing how many people have been throwing stones considering the glass houses they live in. But I believe in karma; they'll get theirs.

8. Welcome, oklablue -- see the Andrew Sullivan post
I think this thing may turn and bite bush in the ass. I really hope the talking heads figure out they've been duped.

10. Welcome!!!
The good folks here at the JK forum are what inspired me to join DU--though it was awhile before I finally could donate and participate in this forum itself.

11. A most heartfelt welcome!

You have no idear what it means to have someone check in on this day (of all days, the saddest since 11/3.) Your timing is wonderful and deeply appreciated.

This shall pass. Those who disliked Kerry before,, still do. Democrats ran away from him over a minor gaffe. He has to stay out of the fray right before the '06 vote. This is not good, but it is also temporary.

It shall pass, as all things do. The first side of this debate was everyone piling on Kerry. There have been a lot of Dems who have been waiting to do this for quite a while. There have been some sharpening the knives since 01/06 because he made the Senate Dems choose on the Alito issue. He did this again and roiled the waters in June over his withdrawal amendment. He is a big pain in the arse for some people and they think they have gotten payback.

This too shall pass. The really odd thing about all this is that Kerry, almost above all other current Dems, is in a unique position to come back from this. He has a real and verifiable record of fighting for veterans, both in active deployment and when they come home. He can come back because that is a real record.

This has to blow over. Other people have to talk for him for a bit now. That is how healing starts. That is what needs to happen. (This too is a process.) Let it happen. If you believed before, there is every reason to believe again. But first, things have to be put into real perspective. That is beginning.

:patriot: You are most welcome.

12. Welcome, oklablue!
Thank you for posting and letting us know your support, it's great to have you here.

:hi:

I think this will go away, over time. If not, then the truth of what really happened and what this says about certain people should be replayed over and over and over again. People need to understand what the media and its manipulators are capable of, how low they will stoop, and that we as citizens - if we deserve to be called Americans - have a duty to know how to see through the lies and treat the liars as they deserve.

As for being president: I can't think of anyone who would make a better US President than John Kerry. But, there is no law that says that the best person will get that job, in fact it seems more and more that there is a law that says the best can't get that job. I have been reconciled for a long time that JK may not ever be allowed to do the job we so desparately need him to do, but still his service to this country in whatever role he gives it - as Senator or Citizen - will be a great gift to us. I think long ago the point was passed where John Kerry doesn't owe one person in this country a single bit more of his heart and his effort. But he will keep giving of it anyway, because it's who he is. And that's why he has so many supporters like you and I and this group and many, many more around this country.

13. Hey you (And all the PA people)
Bob Casey is a class act. We used to have the running joke in here about cloning a certain tall Senator and sending that clone down to you good people.

Ahm, no cloning needed. Mr. Casey is a class act and I owe him thanks for being a standup guy.

15. Yes.
I have had objections to Casey's pro-life position before. But you know, there is nothing more important than defending the honor of someone unjustly slandered. Casey is fine in my book. He is a friend. Pennsylvania will be proud to have him in the Senate, and I'm sure that John Kerry won't forget him.

This is what the "big tent" is all about. We can accept differences of opinion. What is unacceptable are people who, when arsonists try to burn down that tent, turn coward and, out of a sense of misguided self-preservation, join in setting fires.

16. I just donated money to his campaign
I did it by phone, telling them I was doing it in honor of John Kerry, and as thanks for his being, as you say, a class act. I met him in Boston in the spring, and I had come to a similar conclusion: more conservative than me on some issues, but a GOOD MAN, and definitely worthy of support. He has not disappointed.
