A diary about the botched joke by a soldier in Iraq
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2006/11/3/153249/306

He talks about how a lot of the people there indeed were there due to lack of other opportunities, having done poorly in school. He said the joke was true whether it was about Bush or the troops. Sadly, he said a LOT of troops were not happy about Kerry's botched joke. Anyway, I troll rated somebody for disrespecting the poster -- I guess later he apologized, but I just thought his comment was so callous to somebody who took the time to write a diary, and he spelled Kerry's name the way those soldiers in Iraq did.

Sigh. Comment anyway, but this was unbiased info that soldiers have heard about this and are mad at Kerry.

2. I imagine not.
What are the sources for their news after all?

No doubt about it. There is work to do to repair this, after the election.

And next Sat is Veterans Day.

3. You know, that was one of the more hurtful things and he didn't
even mean to imply that. It was very low of Bush and Rove to do this. Very, very low. He didn't deserve this. He has worked so hard on behalf of the soldiers and veterans. This is why I thought he had a right not to apologize and confirm the Republican lies. That is why I don't understand why he wasn't given more support within the party, they must know about his feeling and support.

4. Maybe he should meet with the troops

I agree with JI7, they would love someone that has supported them and wanting to get them home. I don't want him to lose support of the vets. It's not fair. He didn't do anything wrong. :-(

5. Hey, guys -- should I post this on the Kerry blog or skip it?
It's a mixed bag diary. The poster is not criticizing Kerry at all, but his comment on the other troops is there. What do you think?

8. Kerry can do interviews with Army Times
and som eother media sources. and hold events with soldiers that get attention. it would give him a chance to explain what happened on his own. and talk about other issues. hopefully it gets news coverage and end up going the way of the swift boat assholes where the only ones who believe the shit are those who want to.

this time it's already true to some extent as many admit Kerry was talking about Bush including Republicans. and they talk about it more in a context of his messing up the joke rather than any serious intent to attack soldiers.

10. I would hope he would do that
starting with veterans in MA with whom he has a long history. Then with crowds small enough that they can have a real dialogue.

I think he also needs a public written response to the AL that politely points out that he HAS supported and in fact pushed for the things they demand of him - he needs to get them to see who votes them down.
