They had a good piece on Kerry a couple of years ago on his career and highlights so I'm surprised they're hitting him. :(

I hate The Nation, anyway. Too lefty, too holier than thou. Yuck. And the grades? That was a RW talking point!

9. How pathetic
I just e-mailed them my 2 cents.

To the Editors:

John Kerry - Shut Up

Wow, how pathetic. Since you are so cowardly to add any names to the piece it just shows how despicable you are.

You couldn't pay me to subscribe to your magazine after I read this. Take your opionated news and join Fox, that is how low this piece is.

You should be ashamed, keep on thinking your so great and with your ego opinions, no wonder you have to advertise on TV, you suck.

Karl Rove thanks you.

Wrong on all counts.

Kerry was energizing young voters and getting funds to many candidates before the right-wing radio station captured and shopped around his remarks. He is off the trail because the issue turned into a major distraction. As soon as the election is over he will be back . By dismissing Kerry you show yourself to be gullibly susceptible to orchestrated right-wing attacks. Dick Durbin came back to prominence after they savaged him. Dean is back. It is cowardice personified to throw an ally under the bus because of a right-wing generated incident. Nobody would ever be able to make jokes or speak in hyperbole except the right wingers if they get abandoned simply because of mistakes. Kerry was kicking ass before this manufactured controversy and he will be kicking ass again.

14. This will be indeed the major problem for 08.
The buzz has stopped a long time ago on how Kerry dissed the troops or even injured the Democrats. These two are already an old story.

The issue has become how Kerry reacted and how he is reliving the 04 election rather than moving ahead. This is why Hillary made her comment this way, talking about how it was not about the 04 election. They are trying to position Kerry as so passe, and this is what will stay passed Tuesday. All the other story lines will disappear.

And this is a question that will need to be debated after Tuesday.

15. my sense is that 2008 election will be fundamentally different
in atmosphere than 2004, and , perhaps counterintuitively for those who think that Kerry is still stuck in 2004 (or who are working to portray him, wrongly, as "passe"), it's going to be Kerry who will be the Man of the Hour.
I really do think he will prevail. (But, boy, I've HAD it with the Dem cowards. Is there ANY public Dem, besides Casey, who came out with a strong statement in Kerry's defense? If so, I'd sure like to know).

16. I am energized to GOTV for Mr Casey this weekend.
I've been volunteering for him for months, and I've known for a while that he's a good guy, and will be a fine Senator.
But this is a real indicator of his character, and I couldn't be more impressed.
Bob Casey rocks!

20. I do not have any links, but
I remember seeing Pelosi and Byron Dorgan mentioned. Possibly Dean ??? I am not sure... Maybe others, but I do not recall. And I am only thinking of the ones that made a statement BEFORE the apology, after it does not count much.

Again, I am reinforcing the point that if any candidate's supporters drooling inside over this right now think that what happened to Kerry won't happen to anyone else is in for a rude awakening.

That's a fact.

most of what gets pinned on JK is false or debunkable.

We don't know yet if this is true of all other potential '08 candidates.

And I am not one that talks down to any of the candidiates (i.e. bash one to promote one) cause there two or three besides Kerry that I like.

My problem is they are thinking that he/she is going to be perfect all the way, stand up to Rove, fight until all the votes are counted, and so on. In other words, as TayTay said the other day, find a democrat that will be impossible to smear.

What if A, B, or C doesn't happen? What's the reaction then?

This is not only dangerous, but it's setting one's self up for disappointment in future elections.

28. Yes, I agree.
I don't mean to suggest that any other candidate has skeletons in the closet. But any one of them could.

Plus, look at JK's Vietnam service. That's not scandalous. Yet Rove and Co. managed to turn that into a liability.

People who don't remember that we're up against a political machine that can turn a candidate's best qualities into a negative are being really short-sighted.

29. Most definitely agree.
That's why this incident makes me angry.

Those gleefully glad this happened to Kerry so ______ can run and win without being smeared is going to get a cold hard dose of reality.

Don't they get it? We have an election on Tuesday. The other election is two years from now. One election at a time, please.

22. Kerry had some lose ends to take care of from 04.
He can move past the more personal attacks on Bush and just direct them at the administration. The points he makes in regards to the war are relevant today. Bush is old news. Kerry doesn't have to be. His approach on speaking up and taking them all on resonates.

I would like to find out who the author is to respond in person or LTE. I would be willing to write up the letter but it would be more effective if it was sent from a subscriber.
